Thks for the info, but in Ontario there is no schools in our area the Sault that is on the list, so i suppose it does not involve this community.
Ummmm Algoma University??? Used to be Shingwauk.

How about silent ones?
You beat me to it Pink....obviously someone is either not from the Soo originally, or is not quite up on their local history.

Not only that, but there are natives in this area that have lived in other communities other than here.

My dad got MOST of his money the 3rd week of October, they still owe him for a few years I believe...and he went to school in Spanish.

Any recompense for the dead?
I don't want it and I don't need it, but I'm sure a charity would take it.

Yep you gotta fill out the paper work and be able to prove they attended residential school

I think for the already deceased was up on May 30th if I am not mistaken. Might find some info on the ifo link up top some.

Got to love how all that paper work was ordered destroyed ages ago, and now it is up to the people to prove they went to residential school...as if they had a choice. Bha!
There are people only getting partial payment because they can't prove they were there on certain years...others cannot prove they even were there, and are left out.
What a mess all a round.

We looked into the deceased and was told that we were not able to get any compensation for my father who also attended residential school in Spanish. We called and they told us straight out no. Are they giving deceased peoples families this also?
No they are not unless they were alive after May30th, 2005.
Already Service Canada is backlogged by over 80,000 applications, they knew it was coming - yet were unprepared and relying on researching documents as the means of processing payments instead of having things set up properly From what I know, they are processing applications based on - 10 years before & 10 years after they look at the years spent and already know of some elders being ripped off because of lost documents (how convenient) /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whistle.gif
There have been allegations of misappropriation of monies designated for the C.E.P, those were denied.(of course) /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
Bah...what a mess I agree Chako. Prayers to those who went - prays to families who are waiting - its taken a very, very, very long time to come to fruition. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool_shades.gif
In some ways I believe its shush money.

Well they also had the option to opt out and go the other way by hiring a lawyer if they thought they were not getting enough. But lots were told it wasn't worth it, go figure....prolly told to say that.

Thank you for clearing that up...sometimes you just don't know what to believe anymore. My dad passes back in 1991 so of course we don't qualify. Oh well, probably wouldn't have gotten anything back for living what we had to live with as children being reared by a person who was badly treaten in a residential school. I guess they don't think about the compinsation in the children who got treated the same way that thier parents were how many years ago. Again thanks for clearing that up.
