MODS please leave this here, as it is my friends family member that was brutally murdered, and b/c of the YOA, he may get a slap on the wrist.....
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO SIGN THIS PETITION!!!
Change The Youth Criminal Justice Act
I have just visited GoPetition and found the
following page very interesting:
http://www.gopetition.com/online/15695.html
Here is a website composed for us to sign a petition to change the youth and justice system. Heinous crimes committed by youths 15 to 18, should be more harshly punished!!
The recent murder of Lindsay Lemieux, of Sudbury, is a clear indication of how the Youth Justice System is not working, justice may never come out of this brutal and violent crime because it was committed by a 14 year old boy, who may not be
tried as an adult. Please help out, and sign the petition to get these young violent offenders off our streets, and to pay for their crimes, and bring justice to the victims, and their families....
Regards
Candace
Also, forward, sticky, or post this anywhere you can, thank you

I signed it too. But I don't expect it to make any difference. Both goverments are too stupid to change it. Didn't Harris submit a bill to make the YOA a bit more strict?Probably told them to give them 2 slaps on the wrist instead of one.
I know cops in this city who are sick and tired of taking these kids to court and see them on the street the next day

Should the crown and authorities feel it appropriate they can petition the court to try the young offender as an adult. It has happened.
Not that he shouldn't be punished because YES he should be and for a very long time. But so we give him life which would be 25 years he will be out when he is 39 still a very long life ahead of him no education or little, will live off our taxes and probably be a hardened criminal by then and only re offend. His punishment needs to be paired up with intense counseling and rehabilitative services.

But what would happen if someone was incorrectly found guilty of a charge such as in the case of William Mullins-Johnson?

Capital punishment does not solve murders, but in fact creates more of them.

Signed it too.
He was an angry child that everyone described as a little off. His rage needs to be dealt with and unfortunately it should've been addressed before something violent happened.

Thank you everyone who signed it, I know the family appreciates it.
Yes Loopy, you are correct, it is just too bad that his anger wasn't dealt with sooner.

I wonder if someone this young, who can kill another person, will EVER be rehabilitated even with intense counselling?
Even if we have to pay to keep this little &%$$'er in prison, who wants the likes of him on the streets ever again? Only his mama.
I agree with capital punishment, if the DNA proves without a doubt.

I agree with capital punishment in this case if DNA proves without a doubt....but being we don't have that we can't consider it. Being that it is likely even if this youth got the max penalty with the % of time served he will be out when he is 29 and at the oldest 39 there is no way around that. Will rehabilitative services work for him. I am not saying it will. But being that he WILL be out I would rather take my chances with some intense therapy, rehab, giving this kid every opportunity to turn things around. A "normal" using it losely...a normal kid can not even fathom doing something like this. There has to be some sort of mental health issue. He is sick very very sick...there are bad kids and then there are sick bad kids a bad kids doesn't do something like this. We don't know everything around this issue. Not making excuses as there are none that can change or forgive what he has done. But if he is schizophrenic and he was having a delusion then jail isn't going to help anyone. Not saying he shouldn't do time because he needs it. But medication therapy counselling education would all be beneficial because it certainly can't hurt. i just know that kids going into the system who spend any lengthy time only come out worse, and since he is coming out while he will still be young I don't think we want him worse then what he already is. NOT to be confused with thinking he shouldn't spend time and lots of time but we need to make sure he gets the help he needs or that at least it is available.

I propose people who offend others within internet forums should be whipped on a pole in centre court in the station mall.

I just wanted to bump this up one last time, in the end it may not help, but if we don't try then nothing would ever change!!
