Everyone is familiar with the typical butane lighter. You push one button forward with your thumb and pull the trigger to get it to light. There is a slightly audible click when the trigger is pulled. I would like to find a silent butane lighter, no click when you pull the trigger. Please believe me when I say that this is a legitimate request. Silence is needed due to the ambience of where the lighter is being used. Suffice it to say it is for use of lighting candles during a Christmas Eve service, approx. 300 of them so no clicking is desirable. Is there such a thing available? Please advise.

Unfortunatley, only thing you can do is muffle the click. The clicking action is caused by the ignitor. Just like a BBQ ignitor, it needs that click, to generate a spark to light the butane.

or light one, and then light each one with a candle?

I forgot to mention that the candles in question are the small tea candle type that sit inside a plastic cup holder. Tipping this holder would cause the candle to fall out. I need something that I can tip down inside the cup holder to light the tea candle. Matches wouldn't work because of the flair everytime you light a new match. Maybe a long candle but the person holding this candle runs the danger of getting hot wax on their fingers as they wait to light the next batch of candles. Personally I like the blow torch idea .... just kidden. Thank you to all for your suggestions.

don't laugh at the blow torch idea, there are small blow torchs used for crafts, fits in your hand and has a bend in the neck that will point down and once lite makes no sound

Bobtoe, have you thought about those long "fireplace" matches? They're quite handy for deeper candle holders like you describe.

12-20-2007, 10:42 AM
They have those "long nose" bbq lighters that work excellent for this. There is still the initial click from lighting it, but you won't burn your thumb holding the button down while you keep it lit during the entire time. The flame can be dialed down low, and the reach is great for the tea lights in their holder.

ProfessorZed actually no, I never thought of those long fireplace matches. You could probably light quite a few candles before you would have to light a new match. Thanks.

Listen Mokita... its obvious you have had a rough go... i'm just trying to help you out... go back to school, i'm not sure if there is a class about butane lighters but i'm sure if you ask someone else in your class they will be able to fill you in... also I apologize for destroying our city, first thing in the New Year i'll see what I can do about it... I COULD mention that this is sarcasm but it doesnt matter, i'm sure you don't know what that means either...

...and back on topic -- Bobtoe, can I suggest a trial run with whatever flame source you decide to try? Years of experience talking, here: always make sure to test the equipment!

you see how quickly this thread changed around? I simply asked if those butane lighters were the ones that had the long flame, and i get a snarky remark from someone on here, which in turn disrupts the whole thread, jeez.
