IE is built into windows and really cannot be removed. I don't even know it's there as I always use Firefox.

if you removed IE7 from add/remove it should have reverted back to IE6

SusyQ

IE7 runs flawlessly for many people including myself. It is those who don't know how to use a computer that have issues.. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Wait until IE8 is out.. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Completly incorrect....theres still some sites even that won't work with IE7 and some that don't work properly, it's not ALWAYS the person using the computers fault

I have never had an issue yet with IE7 and so has nobody that i know.

The only people having issues is those who don't know how to mainatin their PC's or go to sites that are inappropriate sites in which can cause issues for IE7 or any browser for that matter.

I've had issues getting to some sites and i'm pretty sure i know what i'm doing, flash can also be an issue (occasionally)
I like IE7 but theres still some things that need worked out and its not on MS's end

Maryms

hemi_69
12-21-2007, 02:43 PM
I can;t really post them here for you to try unfortunatly, the latest ones are government canada ones that require me to log into, they are slowly being fixed.
however some of them still arent compatible with Vista and the exact error on it is "this website is not compatible with your Operating System, Microsoft Windows Vista"

and I have tried these sites from multiple computers so It's not just mine

Click Start, and then click My Documents.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
In the Advanced settings list, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK.

once you have done that,

Click Start, go to Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe, then click OK.
Follow the wizard instructions to uninstall IE7.

Which Operating system do you hav Susy? If it is on Vista you are wasting your time because you cannot downgrade from 7 to 6 on Vista /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

hemi_69

See if you can download/install IE7 again from MS and then try removing again using the spuninst.exe method. That should replace what's missing and let you remove it without issues.

hemi_69
12-21-2007, 10:51 PM
good chance it won't reinstall as it still is technically installed, but deffenitly worth a try though

SusyQ
12-22-2007, 12:37 AM

Did you try using the uninstall from CCleaner?(tools button)
It may see it where XP doesn't and let you remove IE7.

try to manualy go to %windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe
my computer
C: Drive (that is where the OS usually is installed)
Click IE7 folder
click the spuninst folder
and do you see an spunins.exe there? if so, what is it's extention? (.txt, .exe, ect...)
I have seen cases where the spuninst.exe has turned to a .txt file, I have seen sucsess in re-saving it as a .exe and I think there may also have been an article with a fix for it, I can try to look it up if that is the case for ya

did you try (from microsoft)
click start buton, click 'run' and in the 'open' box type (or copy/paste)
%windir%\ie7\spuninst\spuninst.exe
then hit enter and follow instructions in wizard.
By the way did you have ie 6 installed prior to ie 7?

personally i think its one of microsofts ways of making people upgrade, by 'enhancing the xp experience' with features found in vista in ms updates.

but i like conspiracies

hemi_69
12-23-2007, 12:25 PM
I agree to an extent, however IE7 does offer other features and better security, and soon enough IE6 will be obsolete as is IE5 now

binky
12-23-2007, 01:31 PM
yeah it does but it still (unless I've got something wrong) doesn't save passwords to enter into login spaces as opera and to a large extent firefox does, but maybe thats a good thing. I think theres a few more xp machines that didnt work ie7 that well I know mine went right heywire after intalling it.

try going to tools/internet options/advanced tab and clicking the two buttons there 'restore advanced settings' and 'restore int explorer' maybe these do something for you.
