8600 gt, unless you use high resolutions. In that case I would go for the 2600xt because it has 512 Mb of ram.

Pretty close...I got my in-law a HIS 2600XT 512MB PCIe and it's sweet, the 8600GT is probly in the same class, but I heard the 8600GTS beats them both.

I say go with a 8800GT 256MB version if you can, or maybe even a HD 3850.

highest resolution i use is 1680 x 1050.

and im just looking for opinions, cuz i bought the 8600, only because i can use it to step up to another card... this card is simply a backup while i wait for my psu to come back from RMA, and i can start using my 8800 again. And i imagine ill be selling the 8800GTS to step up to a GT.

GT has too much heat, if your getting it, get an after market cooler. If you can get the 512MB GTS....it rocks.

Ya I hear ya on that.

Loved the coolbits.

Can only use Ntune, which is fine for OC and fan control...just have to manual OC, which takes a lot more time than just hitting that auto OC button.

Buy a x3870 or a GTS card they are cheap to buy and give good game play ... until the dual gpu cards arrive or the nvidia G100 card.
