View Full Version : Going to Traverse City

My husband and I are taking the kids to the Great Wolf Lodge next month. Neither of us have driven to Traverse City and I was wondering how long does it normally take to get there. Mapquest shows 3 hrs, is this a good approximation. Our kids are 10, 5, and 2 so we may need to make a pit stop half way through the trip, where would be the best stop to plan one?

Petoskey would probably be your best stop I think. I think it's about an hour and a half from here.

I prefer taking the scenic route as compared to taking I-75 and cutting straight across. When alls said and done there is a difference of under a half an hour.

i go the same way as grumpy too. i prefer it. watch out for deer, when we went in december there were alot around on the road.

it is about three hours. drive the i-75 until you cross the mac bridge, then shortly after you'll come to the turnoff for petoskey. take that way, it's nicer, more to see, and more places to stop for breaks if needed.

Don't forget to have Lunch at Hooters on sunday, they have kids specials on that day, I believe hotdogs and hamburgers for a buck or two.

get the hubbie to take a picture with the girls, I need to see how hot they are.

Can't do lunch on a Sunday, we are going Tuesday - Thursday. Shawn will be quite upset I guess.

When we went to TC in the fall, we went the scenic route down but out via Kalkaska on the way home. Its a lot of speed up slow down on the scenic route. My husband HATES to be behind anyone so the other route out to I75 was better for us.
Most of that stretch of road was at least 3 lanes not just 2.

When all is said and done theres only 1/2 hour difference.

MaO3

The time difference meant little to us, my husband has this thing about people in front of him. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

You know the lead dog thing. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

He'd much rather be in the lead than following.
The other stretch was longer distance but better "steady speed" driving.

Take I-75 to Grayling and then cut over to Kalkaska and then Tc. Much quicker and alot less frustrating(slowing down and stopping and starting).

Have fun!! I go to TC 2 or 3 times a year and really enjoy. We've been to the Great Wolf twice and have really enjoyed ourselves. The shopping isn't bad either!!! If you leave on a weekday, be sure to stop at Friske's Orchard just past Charlevoix. There are some interesting things for the kids and a cool little market and gift shop.

We'll we made it to the Great Wolf today and all I can say is WOW!! The kids have done so much already and we didn't arrive till 4p. Another packed day tomorrow doing all the things offered at the lodge. Then Thursday is Grand Traverse Mall day. I really looking forward to that one.

Didn't have much problems getting here, except for missing the turn in Petoskey. Hubby seems to get confused easily. lol

This is one family vacation I will do again and recommend to other families.

Give the Outback a try, its just down the street from you. Then again there is Pizza Hut just down the street again and oh yes, there is Olive Garden on the same street. Too many choices lol

Well yesterday we had supper first, did a little tour afterwards. Went into the waterpark till 8:15p (kids didn't want to leave.) My two year old and five year old loved the little water slides. Came up to our room to have bedtime snacks and at 9p went down to the lobby for the animated show and two bedtime stories.

Today we plan on doing the Cub Club and MagiQuest in the morning/early afternoon. Also getting some air brush temporary tatoos. Afterwards it's more waterpark. My daughter woke up this morning and the first thing out of her mouth was "bathing suit....swimming time." So cute.

For those of you going soon to the Great Wolf, there was a note left under the door about staying another extra day. Our regular rate was $214/night and the extra day was offered at $138. It said on the paper that it was first come first offered. If you want to stay the extra day for cheaper, I would recommend getting up early and calling down right away. If I wasn't working tomorrow at 8am, we would have stayed another day. Hubby is thinking about going again in the summer.
