They were good in the 70's but since then they have become more mass market product.

My JBL S99 Athena speakers are still kicking, although, I have to replace the surrounds on the LE14A woofers...the old Lansaplas surrounds are finally dried out enough to start ripping/tearing. They still have the original wooden grilles on them too. They're heavy. And they get loud with very little power. I have a hard time finding center and surround speakers that will keep up with them.)http://www.lansingheritage.org/images/jbl/catalogs/1969-home/page11.jpg
Now, if I only had the space here to add my two JBL2242H 18" subs (the 18's that are in the 4645B Cinema subwoofer system), I'd be all set. I use them for PA subs right now with a pair of Crest CA6 amps , one bridged on each of them.
These 4645B Cenema subs are what are installed in all of the Galaxy theatres here too.

Dad has a pair of the highly desired Jubal 65 speakers (L65) (about 1976 vintage). Can't wait until I inherit those ones!

Mine are a bit scratched and dinged, but was not a bad investment of $600 back in 1982.
