Anyone on or have been on the south beach diet? I know it was popular for a while. I just started it and its not bad. I'm kinda making it up as I go along with no bread or the like, potatoes, sugar, rice, pasta, fruit. Its basically meat veggies eggs some lf cheese for the first 2 weeks then whole wheat stuff after that. Any comments on this? I know its restrictive and my daughter commented about the canadas food guide and thats good if you want to maintain but to actually lose weight you have to restrict intake and exercise till I get to my goal then maintain.

Any diet that cuts out fruit and bread you will just gain the weight back afterwards, and you will increase your risk of heart problems by ALOT. Your body needs grains.

south beach is 3 phases....first phase no breads, fruit, grains. no carbs, just veggies
after 2 weeks u start to add fruits
then grains etc
now, onthe other hand, atkins is the one that is quite restrictive with carbs.....maybe that's what ur thinking of?

If your body needed grains all the time, I sure doctors would be in an uproar with all thelow carb diets that are out there right now. To lose wieght you have to be restrictive in what you eat. Add exercise and then healthy eating after wards and your no going to gain the weight back as soon as you put a peice of bread in your mouth.

They have South Beach Diet Cookbooks at Coles in the mall.
Also If that diet isn't working for you the G.I Diet is amazing and 2 of doctors agree that it is one of the best. Easy to stick to and I lost 14lbs my first 2 weeks my mom Lost 10 hers.

I heard of the GI diet but this one is working out really good right now. Easy and lots of good recipes. I found http://www.3fatchicks.com (http://www.3fatchicks.com) and it has a great selection of recipes for this diet and quite a few others. Also prevention.com is supposed to be good too. Thanks.
