I ordered this card http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_sp.php?id=363

Do you think it will be much of an improvement over my 7800 GT's in SLI ? I wanted a quieter card than my two GT's is why I want to upgrade more than for performance.

I think it will be.

what will you be letting the 78's go for if you upgrade.

Man, you could buy my 7950 GX2 wich is an increase over what you have and probably quiter for 150 bucks...lol. I bet it performs better than that card too.

I would get that 3870 for sure, they don't use as much power as the 2xxx series did, and underclock themselves when not using a 3D application. Fair price too.

the 3850 is ok, the 8800GT's are sweet too, as well as the new G92 GTS that I have, which is an all around powerful card, but cost me about $350.

Killswitch has a 3870, and I the 8800 512MB, both have a smaller nanometer processed chip which stay cool, use less power and what your looking for, stay quiet due to their auto fans.

Best bang for buck I think is the 3870 all around, 8800GT 256MB or 512MB if you prefer Nvidia.

Don't know if I will be selling my 7800's or not yet.If so I will post.I got a good price on the 3870, $239.99 + 6% GST and free shipping. It seems to be the only one with the core at 850mhz.

Yes high speed memory to boot, plenty O shaders and will walk up to any game and bust it right in the mouth.

It could also take advantage of 2x bandwidth if you have, or are going to upgrade to PCIe 2.0 mobo.

my future plans for a new system will have at least of these cards in it. good price for performance.

I'm waiting to see what the future holds but a crossfire system isn't out of the question.

im skipping all those cards ... there all junk IMO ..

in dx 9 mode there not much faster than prev gen ... at least not fast enough to upgrade from a x1900xt

all dx9 graphics look the same no matter what ... dx9 is dx9 ...

the cards out today are crippled in dx10 mode ... so pffff on that front ...

dx10.1 is out or coming out so these cards are going to be basically nothing special ... there a fill in card ...

still first gen dx10 ...

im waiting for the next get ... the true next gen not a die shrink and slight modifications ... this fall is when to buy a dx10 card ... IMO ...

The Radeon 3800 series are all dx10.1 cards.

Nice rant, should know what your talking about first as both ATI 3xxx series cards are Dx10.1 compliant.

My card produces massive gains in Dx9, I had an pretty high end SLI setup and was getting around 30-50 FPS in Win XP with FEAR, practically the beefiest Dx9 game going at the time.

Now with this 8800GTS 512MB, I get 70-90 FPS in Call of Juarez in Vista running it in Dx10, and that game in my opinion is quite the load on any system.

That being said, the thing I agree with you on is that since you have one of the best Dx9 cards, and your still using Win XP, there's no point for you to upgrade.

As for Dx10.1, well many sources say games being played today are mostly Dx9, some Dx10 and some Dx8 and lower so by the time any Dx10.1 games hit retail, it will be time for me to upgrade anyways.

2011 is the year for PC gaming on DX10.1 or DX11

Direct X 10.1 is to be released soon with (and will require) Service Pack 1 for Vista.

As for when 10.1 games will be released, I'm not sure. But I'm not going to start spitting dates out like others do. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Quote - "DX10.1 brings the ability to read those sub-samples to the party via MSBRW. To the end user, this means that once DX10.1 hits, you can click the AA button on your shiny new game and have it actually do something. This is hugely important."

Quote - "Since NV has not done the usual 'we can do it too' song and dance when they are being beaten about the head and neck by a bullet point feature they don't have, you can be pretty sure they can't do it."

haha...don't worry about Nvidia...they'll be ok. They've been eating caviar for years whilst ATI's been eating tuna.

When Dx10.1 actually becomes an available feature in games, which I believe to be Q3 2009, Nvidia will have something out to compliment that.

I have not even heard about any games in development using Dx10.1...

Codename that X3870 will or should blow those 2 x 7800's out of the water.. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Or it definatley be equal to them, but i bet it is much better.
