View Full Version : USB Hi Speed

I like getting help from SOonetters.

Everytime I plug in some USB device I get the message about USB hi speed, and if I choose the right port or something like that..

Is the hi speed of the USB transfer dependent on some setting? I have no clue how to change settings to get the hi speed. Or is it hardware dependent?

it's hardware dependant usually, but if only the right side does it I would guess there a problem with Drivers or something

there are 2 standards for usb... 1.1 and 2.0
certain peripherals require 2.0 for optimal performance (such as usb hard drives), while other items work perfectly with 1.1 (keyboards, printers, mice)

if you're getting that popup, its indicitive that you are using a device that would work better with usb 2.0, Most older systems used 1.1, but that can be rectified with an add-in usb card that will allow 2.0 functionality

Ahh, so I need to purchase a USB card, plus a hub that I run everything off of! OK.

Yes and no. You don't need a hub, just a few USB 2.0 ports. Some older systems have a mix of 1.1 and 2.0 ports, and some systems allow you to disable 2.0 in the bios for legacy purposes.

Check your bios, make sure USB 2.0 is not disabled. It's sometimes called USB legacy support.
