Just wondering if anyone else had/has this problem? My 13 yr old has a lump on the left side of his neck, like a swollen gland. Only on the left side. doesn't seem to have any other symptoms. Was a little under the weather for a day or two but otherwise fine. We know of one other person who seems tohave the same problem. Don't know them personally tho. We have gone to the hospital, they ran blood test and throat swabs, but nothing is showing up. He is being referred to a specialist, but still would like to know if this has happened to anyone else and what it could be.

My brother has one on his elbow? or hip. Or somewhere odd, and it ended up jus being a calcium deposit?

This lump is soft, do you know how when you go to the dr's with a sore throat and they feel your neck, right under your chin? it's there, where the gland is.

My son who is 15 has a lump on the back of his neck. He went to the chiropractor thinking it was muscle related. The chiropractor said it was a viral infection. Antibiotics won't work. He just needs lots of fluids and rest.
As a matter of fact, I had a lump on the right side of my neck into the gland last month. It drove me nuts! I too had throat swabs etc. and nothing was wrong. My neck was so sore that my teeth even hurt from the radiating pain. I just took lots of Ibuprofen. It went away after a few weeks.

We saw another dr today, who is convinced it is mono. or my son is allergic to amoxicillan. so he's going for blood work tomorrow to test for the mono. he also has an appointment with a specialist, too, just to be on the safe side.

Ouch, mono sucks. I had it when I was 24. I was sick for a long time, and wound up being chronically tired for a couple of years. Sometimes it can just be "swollen glands" because of a flu or cold one has gotten over recently. I used to get that a lot. Hope you find out what's wrong soon!

Not to be the spooky one here, but in case it isn't figured out....ask about Sarcoidosis. The word actually means flesh-like lump and it can be serious but quite treatable. It is an immune problem and the body basically attacks itself. One of the first signs is lumps and feeling like you're fighting something off.

It's not very common at all and isn't something to freak out about, unless it's left for a couple of years. It seems that hardly anyone knows about it and they don't have it in their "options" list when they check you out.

Glad there is a specialist having a look.

Keep us posted.

Or Kawasawki disease. I knew a kid who got that. Had a lump on his neck behind his ear and ended up needing to be hospitalized.
