I have Shaw Extreme

02-22-2008, 08:04 PM
i know its shaw lol are they all extreme then?

02-22-2008, 08:16 PM
OK, for all the ill informed or for those that think extreme is better. The pretext of what these fan boys are expounding.

These guys are like a bunch of Guido's sitting around and circle jerking and measuring their salamis. Akin too you owning a Volvo and they having Porsche's or Lamborghini's.

Sure they are supposedly better, but what good are they?

They'll get you to a stop light faster but we all get there and have to stop.
They (shaw extreme) are pretty much useless. Where are you going to go with it and what can you do?
Your bandwidth is throttled and you have a ridiculous bandwidth cap of 100 MB.
Me in my 6 MB profile just putt's along behind you and downloads 3X what you can but it takes me a little longer and then I pass you. I still get to the ends of the means before you can and at almost half the price.

Explain to me how this is better!

Oh ya, your youtube may be faster. pffff......

Oh and before you start youR 7EEt hAXxOr pontiff, Save It!

02-22-2008, 11:13 PM
I dunno about you BUB but I was able to download a 700 MB "file" in about 11 minutes. Cant do that on a 6 MB profile.

02-23-2008, 01:49 AM
you can download a crapload faster and it's only $10 more a month, why would you not want to? also who are you getting a 6mb connection from with a 300gb bandwidth?
oh....and when did shaw start throttling?

02-23-2008, 01:56 AM
Well the highest speed I have ever reached on Shaw Extreme was 1.4 MBps on uTorrent

02-23-2008, 06:11 AM
A 700 MB file takes me 20 minutes which is acceptable to me considering the price and the fact that I can do it many more times than you.

Stand alone extreme is $27/month more than I'm paying now.
Shaw started throttling at the same time the implemented the bandwidth cap. They're also going to start charging for extra bandwidth soon.

02-23-2008, 07:29 AM
Yup Shaw is going the way of Rogers.. throttling, limited bandwitdth, and over use charges.

I will stick with my 200GB 6meg DSL any day for 29 bux a month, thanks.

Whos your current provider?
I was looking at upgrading mine but if you're getting a 6meg connection at that price with a 300mb cap I might be interested in switching completley

02-23-2008, 10:33 AM
hemi_69: http://www.teksavvy.com , $29.95/month, 200GB usage.

02-23-2008, 10:40 AM
Yup, typpo on my part. Or you can get the unlimited for $39.95.

I don't understand the 100 versus 200 versus 300 GB a month limit.
What are you guys doing that requires you to generate more then 100 GB/month of traffic??

Mine is a little slow tonight, but not to shabby for an early evening.

Wow that is good.

Speedtests don't mean crap all.. show some speeds by downloading a Linux ISO or something with some meat to it, not some simple text for a speed test.

I want to see what kind of SUSTAINED speeds can be obtained on these Shaw connections, not a simple download 40KB speed test.

Look at my speed tests here at work. Right now I have 600 users using this 100MB line, and yet look what my speed tests show.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/238674812.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

Will I actually get this speed SUSTAINED for the length of a download? Hell no.

02-25-2008, 11:46 AM
I will download a Linux ISO tonight and take a screenshot to show the sustained speed.

02-25-2008, 06:00 PM
As promised, here are the results.
Sustained 1216 Kb/sec for a 595.07 Mb iso image of Debian Linux, CD1.

I should also note that shaw uses some kind of permanent caching technology on their connections, as it always gives you a speed of 1200 Kb/sec, even when it momentarily drops below that. It just speeds up after it dropped to make up for the loss in speed. It dropped once on me during this test, and I noticed they bumped the speed up past 50 Mbit/sec for several seconds to make up for the loss. I am not joking on that one. I was watching my program that shows me the actual upload/download in graphical format, and it went past 5000 Kb/sec for several seconds until the average was back at 1200 Kb/sec for the file...

Nearly forgot to add, I pay for a 10 Mbit connection. So I am getting exactly what I paid for.

I don't have cable or satellite so all the tv I watch + movies are downloaded.
I don't just download one episode at a time, I dl the whole season or box set so some months I'm well over 100GB.

I think you would be a prime candidate for a business connection then...
