They have been running down east for a few night now around blind river and spanish so should be up here in the next day or two. Few buddies got a handful at harmony last night as well.

we just finished cleaning a 5 gallon pail. Caught them last night at Harmony-around 2-230 am. just to add-they were running but not "thick" only about 5-10 in the nets at a time

Yuppers I was at Harmony 11:30pm-2am or so and two of us filled a 5 gal pail. About the same as what you describe.

I imagine they'll get better over the week as this weekend was just the beginning eh?

found it for you
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/198219.pdf
on page 7 - "Residents and non-residents with a valid fishing licence may fish with one dip net, one seine net, one spear or a bow and arrow for the species outlined below."
Smelt is listed as on of the species. There is no limit on smelts, so enjoy your fishing.

some people dont know this but if you have a disability parking permit you do not need a fishing license...sport fishing status though

went last night, got there at 10:30 pm, caught 1 - 2 at a time, between 11 pm and midnight, filled a big cooler and a 5 gal pail. If your planning on going go in the next couple days , they are running good.

I went last night and it wasn't very good. I believe it's over actually. We were at Stokely (Havilland) from 11:30 til 2 am and only got enough for a meal. People showed up from Harmony saying Harmony was no better.

I'm sorry I waited so long. If you are going to go out, be patient and wear something warm.

If it's not over, will someone please speak up as so many would like to get out there and get their boots wet.

I remember it was like this last year too. There was a really good run to start, then it seemed to tail off rather quickly. The run ended up getting later. I went at one point last year and waited until 1:00 before going home empty handed. I learned later that the run didn't start that night until about 2:00 or 3:00, then people were going home rather quickly with full pails. Hopefully they will still be running Friday when I can finally get out.

Our kids are going tonight so hopefully i will have a good report for you tomorrow.....they went last year and got LOTS and it was hit and miss at times.....my dad always said if you don't hold your mouth right you wont catch a thing where fishing is concerned.......so hopefully this will be different since it's with a net....LOL

My boyfriend and I got home about 45 minutes ago from Harmony. We nearly filled a 5 gallon pail in an hour of smelting. Was beautiful weather too. If not for the obvious work in the morn, we may have stayed longer.

Nice to hear you did well and glad to hear they are still running.
When we were out it could've been just bad timing and the snow didn't help any either.

I would love to go fishing for smelts but don't drive. If there's anyone who is willing to sell some of their catch I'd honestly be willing to pay!

Where'd he go? We went last night and barely got enough to cover the bottom the the pail. Might want to go tonight again, but would love to know where to go to get a good pail full.

Went to harmony last night, also stopped at chippewa for the heck of it..

I think they're pretty much done running now. We were at harmony until 3am and only got maybe 40 smelts, kinda sad. Caught two suckers though... added a liiittle excitement to the evening I guess, lol.
