View Full Version : NASCAR .......Boring!!!

Is it just me, or has the new COT made the races REALLY boring? I'm all for safety and I'd NEVER want to see anyone hurt, but come on--a little excitement please. Short track racing should have beatin' and bangin' right from the green flag! Those guys are just driving around killing time until 50 laps to go. Some drivers have even said this.

I think they should have 2 qualifying races and 1 main feature like regular stock car racing.

I haven't even watched a race this year.

I like the trucks.
It's at night, and shorter distances.
I have a hard time finding the time on a Sunday afternoon for Cup!
Lots of hard core fans say the COT are the new IROC!
It against the tradition of the 500 distance, but I'd be for it!
You mean a C, B, and A main, like a short track?
That would definitely change things.
Like, the top 15 lock in on time, and 28 transfer through the B and C?
Now we're talking RACING!

I haven't followed the COT controversy.

What's the difference between it and "stock" cars where only the hood and roof came from the manufacturer???

Jack Butler

I think that is still true.
The big difference is the frames and the pick up points on them.
The sanctioned springs and shock packages are also an equalizer.
After a wreck has been reclipped, it has to be reinspected by Nascar.
The pick up points and let's say all the important geometry can't change!
Nascar has very tight restrictions on how much the car's chassis can move.

The cars are so templated now - "stock" is history. The manufacturer sticker on the car is the only thing "stock" about them now.

Jack - that's exactly how they should do it. That IS racing!

The REAL racing I would love to see is Nascar on city streets!!!

Jack Butler

I don't think you would actually like it, Barry.
The trouble is that the street courses are narrow and can be rather ruff.
Open wheel cars, that can negotiate on a street course, struggle.
You've seen the freight trains in Toronto.
Street courses also have the buildings to content with.
I think it's just to dangerous, considering the way Nascar Drivers can tear em' up some races!
If variety is what you are after, maybe a couple times a year on dirt or a multiple surface track?
I'd pay for that!

I think that's the point.

I remember being blown away seeing the open wheelers on some street courses. How much better to see a car closer to what we drive everyday on the same roads.

IMO.

I've always found Nascar boring. Anyone can drive around at 200 MPH in a giant oval for 3 hours. It's not even remotely hard. Turn left. In 400 yards, turn left. In 400 more yards, turn left, in anothe.... ya know what .... just keep turning left.

Personally, I find all racing styles fall extremely short of drift racing. That takes skill, and it's extremely entertaining to watch.

Because you have driven either styles and are now an expert or because your favorite movie is Tokyo Drift?

A lot of people are saying the trucks are the most competitive series out there today.

You may find Nascar boring, that's your opinion.
To say that turning left at 200 for 3 hours is easy is, well, just wrong.
You forgot about the concrete wall going by at 200 or all the beaten and bangen.
Actually, Drivers experience heart rate over 200 and extended periods of 160 to 180 for hours and weight lose in excess of 15 pounds.
Few athletes, regardless what sport, experience that.
Although drifters are skilled, their short little minuets hardly compare.
Drifting is a great new form of auto sports entertainment.
When you need a judge to determine the winner, it stretches the definition of Racing.

you're way off on that one duffy lol, you're absolutley riht that anone can go highs speeds around an oval, however...throw a bunch more cars out there doing the same thing all trying to ge there first and see what happens then lol, i agree that drifting requires skill but so does stock car racing and nascar

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a fast circuit, but it is also something like a street circuit.
The roads were designed for automobile racing, but are public roads for the rest of the year.
Not a true street course, although it will suffice.
Should be a dandy and great to have Nascar in Canada.

Should be a total of eight fans there.
