No Canada! Collapse gives Russia gold

"Canadian hopes of gold died and the home team curse lives on after Ilya Kovalchuk scored a power-play goal at 2:42 of overtime to give Russia a 5-4 victory in the final game of the IIHF world hockey championship on Sunday afternoon."

i'm not going to sit here and make excuses or comment on the penalty. lets all take the high road and not give RWGR what he wants.
Congratulations Russia it was a very good game, and they did fight hard to come back and win.

I don't "want" anything, just posting an important news item in sports today.

The fact that particular news item is just more proof Canada's decline in the hockey world is simply coincidental.

America has never been a hockey power like Russia is now (or Canada was, a long time ago).

A recent ESPN poll showed hockey ranked 34th in popularity in the U.S., behind bass fishing and poker.

Hockey will always be a second-tier sport in the U.S.

However, Canada has lost it, big-time, in hockey. The Europeans completely dominate you now.

Today just solidifies the fact Canada is no longer a hockey power.

Why? We let Canadians comment on world events, yet they are not a serious player in such things.

That's a Canadian minority.

24 Canadians, 31 non-Canadians.

Again, we can clearly see that a majority of Canadians on a team does not in any way spell success for that team.

Just look at the World Championships outcome.

Yeah, and 68 non-Canadians!

You're fighting a losing battle, Puppy! /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

Percentage of Canadians in NHL in 1980: 81%

Percentage of Canadians in NHL today: 51%

First two draft picks in last NHL draft: Americans (Kane and vanRiemsdyk)

The writing is on the wall. The fact you do not see it means Don Cherry's blind xenophobia has taken hold of you.

And that's sad. Very sad.

Tell them the difference between, USA AAA and Canadian AAA.

Come on you steamed shrimp!
Show everyone how smart you are.
You can't answer this one, hand in your whistle.

Show how much you know, or how little!
Sad to say, you have become a waste of time.
Another insignificant American.
You remind me of a dog on a porch, that chases and barks at the passing bus.
Someday....maybe someday....you'll caught that bus.

I asked a simple question over ten days ago.
What is the difference between Canadian AAA and American AAA?
It is obvious, that you don't know, or you would have chirped by now and you didn't.
The answer is age and recruitment boundaries.
Canadians are a year younger and from the city they represent.
Americans are a year older and recruited across a state.
Honeybake or Little Caesars or The Junior Wings or even Team Illinois will canvass their complete state for players.
It's the only way the American teams can compete.
Face it; in hockey there are two kinds of players, regardless of their birthplace.
There are those who play the Canadian game and those that have to learn!

You realize you’re comparing a country to the rest of the world right? How is that statistically accurate? Just wondering.

Right. So what are you saying? Hockey has grown in popularity since 1980. There are more teams in the NHL, the are more players playing globally. And…even with all of the growth and development of the game, Canada STILL has more players than any other SINGLE country.

LOL!!!!! I completely agree. Hockey is in a state of emergency here. Let’s get all of the hockey minds together and find out what is wrong with Canada.

Oh…but wait…since the year 2000, no other country has won more combined medals than Canada at the World Championships. Canada is tied with the Czechs for the most gold medals (3) since 2000 at the Worlds.

And at the junior level (this is really unfair)…Canada has medaled every year since 2000…including gold in the last four tournaments.

I bet every country that plays hockey wishes they had this kind of decline……

A shadow of your former self!
You have turned into a 5 year old.
You give your fractional friend a run for the money.
What a waste of time, you have become.
I thought you were worthy and I was wrong.
You are no longer credible!
All bark and no bite.
Keep chasing that bus, you fool!

You don't take losing well.

You'd think, as a fan of Canadian hockey, you'd be used to losing by now.

Strange.

Jack, you're on a Canadian board and do not have any support!

Your fellow countrymen have accepted the fact!

You, sadly, continue to live in the early-Seventies.

It's sad, Mr. Knoff. Very sad.
