"I have for some time been thinking that it would be a good thing if there were a challenge cup, which would be held from year to year by the leading hockey club in Canada. There does not appear to be any outward sign of a championship at present, and considering the interest that hockey matches now elicit, I am willing to give a cup which shall be held annually by the winning club."

So mused Lord Stanley of Preston in 1892, at a sports banquet in Ottawa. The following year Canada's governor-general was true to his word, purchasing a silver bowl for $50 and naming it the Dominion Hockey Challenge Cup. Hockey folks went with a less formal designation, the Stanley Cup."

It would appear that the "home" of the Stanley Cup is not Detroit.

I'm sure it's just visiting!! /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif :0

The actual Stanley Cup, never leaves Canada!
You got one , but it's an intimation.
Remember each player gets it for 1 day.
The majority of the Wings are Canadian.
Sorry about your luck!

The real Stanley Cup never leaves the Hockey Hall of Fame.
It is becoming apparent, that you know less than even I thought!

The real Stanley cup only appears once. That is when a team wins it.

But when someone takes anywhere it is not the real one. Last year the Stanley cup was in Sweden. During that time my daughter and son in law went to the Sports Hall of Fame and had their picture taken with the stanley cup....she said it is in Sweden...the guy said that one is a fake.We do not let the real one go anywhere unless it is to award a team once a year....and thats a fact

Original, authenticated, and replica versions

There are actually three Stanley Cups: the original bowl, the authenticated Cup, and the replica at the Hall of Fame. The original bowl purchased by Lord Stanley is **currently displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario.**

The authenticated version or **"Presentation Cup" was created in 1963 by Montreal silversmith Carl Petersen. It is authenticated by the seal of the Hockey Hall of Fame on the bottom of the Cup, which can be seen when winning players lift the Cup over their heads, and it is the one currently awarded to the champions of the playoffs and used for promotions. This version was made in secret, and its production was only revealed three years later.**

The replica trophy, called the Replica Cup, was created in 1993 by Montreal silversmith Louise St. Jacques to be used as a stand-in whenever the Presentation Cup is not available at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

That's a small crowd.
The Wings had the same problem at the rink.
I have never seen empty seat at a Stanley Cup playoff game, never!
There were lots this year in Hockeytown.
Hockeyhamlet or Hockeyvillage might be more appropriate.
Well, enjoy it, for the 5 days you've got it.
