On a per capita basis, the world's biggest user of oil and energy (klwh) is...

USA Oil consumption - 25.13 barrels per person per year
Canada Oil Consumption - 25.07 barrels per person per year

The big difference is that Canada, unlike the USA, produces much more than we consume. We produce it, we have the right to use it.

USA Oil Production - 9.92 barrels per person per year
Canada Oil Production - 34.27 barrels per person per year

All you American oil gluttons would sure be in trouble if we weren't such good neighbours Speedy.

He that has the goods, has the right to use them.

He that needs to invade other countries to secure the oil, shouldn't over use them, and is the idiot.

I know a certain country who will be crying in the near or distant future for Canadian oil.

Regardless of what Wingy thinks and says, Canada is the #2 in the world for proven oil reserves.

Another factor. This is a big country, bigger than his. It takes more gas to get from place to place. I have customers 180 miles down the road. Takes gas.
And the weather is worse. which is why there are more 4WD's to get around.

Do we use more oil than the US per capita. No question.

We have to.

Barry Morris

Another factor. Fewer railroads. More of our products are moved by truck (per capita basis) than in the US. Railroads are expensive and difficult to build on the Canadian Shield, which just north of the major economic and manufacturing areas of Canada. That, along with the greater distances involved, means that trucks move more of our stuff.

Therefore, higher per capita oil consumption.

I wouldn't be at all surprised, if all the factors were worked in, if we actually use LESS oil than the USA.

You're a nob and a bird-brained fool! Now that you've posted this go look and see how much is PRODUCED by both countries. Canada has been energy self-sufficient for years while America has been relying on imports!

enough with the excuses... you people are the worst debaters I have ever sen... we use more oil period, therefore we, according to doom and gloomers are killing the earth and using more resources faster. period. It doesn't matter if we produce it, it doesn't matter if we are a bigger land mass. The point of this thread was about who uses more oil not if we are justified in it ect...
oi

Of course Canadians use more oil. We have more heating needs which far exceed American requirements I believe that is a given. As far as "killing" the earth... who has more nuclear power plants creating possible disasters?

Carbon dioxide is the least destructive greenhouse gas and is about 14,000 times less destructive to the ozone layer than refrigerants... so who uses more air-conditioning units causing ozone depletion?

Land mass matters a lot, since land mass can contain trees that convert carbon dioxide into oxygen and use the remainder to grow.

Since Canada produces more oil then it uses it should subsidized the oil it's people use at a low rate like the Saudis and Mexico do with there people, and export the rest at any crazy high price the world is stupid enough to pay for it.

$500 a barrle? no problem,here you go .
