The Vatican has banned the makers of Angels & Demons, the latest Dan Brown thriller to be filmed, from shooting scenes not only in the Vatican but in any church in Rome on the ground that it is "an offence against God" and "wounds common religious feelings".

Archbishop Velasio De Paolis, head of the Vatican's Prefecture for Economic Affairs, said that the author had "turned the Gospels upside down to poison the faith. It would be unacceptable to transform churches into film sets so that his blasphemous novels can be made into mendacious films in the name of business."

You'd think these guys would take a lesson from Mel Gibson. He made a restricted for violence, alternate language movie that was biblically accurate, and made millions.

There are so many stories in Scripture that could be used, with accuracy, I just think these guys are nuts to offend millions of Christians with their garbage.

Where's the profit in that??

I like films and books such as that( a new perspective/fiction blah whatever), but they are in the right to say no to the filming. It is their faith and their temples/ churches and places of worship they have the total right to not give up their sacred places for a movie that is only there to go against them..lol I suppose it would be like someone trying to make a mean biography on a person and asking them if they could film in their house- like, nooo way lol.

How do you achieve bible accuracy?
It's an argument as old as time.
Many RC priest have been acting in a place of worship for decades.
I predict a trilogy.

I'm not sure that's a real problem.

An example.

We assume that Jesus worked as a carpenter, because His father, Joseph was a carpenter. The bible doesn't say that He was, but I don't think it's unreasonable to portray Christ that way. It's not unbiblical, it's extra-biblical, and affects no doctrine or other bible facts.

If a scene clearly contradicts the bible, then there might be a problem.

And be sure that you understand what a contradiction actually is.

I agree.
and sometimes movies add "fillers" that aren't contradictory but add more scenes..things like personalities, how a conversation may be said/ton eof voice, hand gestures, hair length, clothing- all may not be in the bible either. It would be an awful short movie if they didn't add scenes they thought were logical enough to be a part of it. I think there's one movie where the child Jesus heals a dead dove-and I don't think that's in the bible right? I think Jesus loved people and animals and a child with the gift to heal..no doubt he would do that out of love.
creative liscence can be good as long as it doesnt change the story or points.

That is absolutely right!!

Ya know what I'd love to see?? The life of Christ done by somebody with an eye out for some of the funnier things that happened. I'd love to see the look on Peter's face walking on the water when all of a sudden he loses it, and SPLOOSH!!!

lol yeah me too, I think the bible has a lot of humour. I don't think God and Jesus were the stern type in all situations /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I would say a man who turns a woman into a pillar of salt for looking back can only be defined as stern...

Not one who believes everything in the Bible happened, but that being said- God would no doudt be capable of all emotions-he is God..Anger, Seriousness, humour, sadness, love, happiness...all of them..
Overgeneralizations are easy to make..even on people we don't necessarily like or know well.

but yeah, I can see where you're coming from..The Old Testament disturbs me lol.

I used to be disturbed by that. Until I thought about a mother and what she will do to protect her children. Which is whatever it takes, and the deaths in the bible wouldn't hold a patch to an angry mother.

God GAVE mothers those attibutes, in His image, remember, and as He protected His people, there are times He did exactly what a mother would do.

One can never have too many friends.
Friends in high places is even better, but high friends in places is the norm.
