It's a gimmick to get kids to come to camp.

Big words used by media to describe guns don't impress me much.

Hunters use them all the time.

Semi-automatic merely means you don't have to put another bullet in the chamber manually.

An automatic assault rifle would be a machine gun, so the media prefers the term, since it sounds so scarry, oo-oo-oo!!!! /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

p.s. If they gave away a car, it would never make the press, even though a car is a lot more likely to kill somebody, especially a teen.

A gun is a gun, I don't care if they where offering pellet guns it's just a silly gimmick that relates in no way what the Church or the weekend get-together. It's just saying "Come on over, get a free gun!" Most of the kids that would go likely would have no interest in the teachings.

A fatal shooting at a blood-spattered pre-Canada Day party sent people running for their lives Monday night in Brampton, Ont.

Gunfire erupted outside the home at about 11:20 p. m. Monday, hours into an annual party at a home that's reportedly notorious in the neighbourhood.

When the crowds parted, Glenford Reid, 31, was found dead, his body riddled with bullets."

Really? The Toronto city council recently told th media the reason Toronto is becoming such a violent city is because American guns are making their way to the city.

That's a perfect example of the Canadian inability to face reality, and attempt to place all blame on the U.S.

Because Protestants make it up as they go.

The Protestant church in this story believed in giving guns away as an enticement. The Protestant church down the street no doubt disagreed with this.

How can this happen?

Because they believe in "Sola Scriptura", each man interprets the Bible for himself.

The results speak for themselves.

You would never see this happen because Catholic youth only gather when the Pope comes around.

See any catholic youth camps in the area?? Not a one.

But there are at least 5 Protestant camps within 100 miles of here.

Keep in mind, with the Pope arriving in Australia for World Youth Day, some people are getting nervous. They know the Pope inspires millions around the planet at such events. They know their version of Christianity has nothing even remotely comparable. As such, they will attempt to belittle Catholicism now, as some type of pre-emptive strike.

It won't work. World Youth Day will be a massive success, and ill-willed non-Catholics will continue to scratch their heads as to why there is no comparable phenomenon in their circle of Christianity.

I suggest you search "Christian festivals" on google. There are "comparable phenomena" all over Canada and the USA.

I'm glad that World Youth Day was and is a colossal success. I'm also glad when protestant bands play at them.

I'm sad to see an RCC church building with a chapel, an office, and a couple of bathrooms. I'm sad to see an RCC church with an unused, high quality DJ system in the basement.

I'm amused at hearing in the only RCC church I know with youth facilities Protestant praise and worship songs.

These problems, BTW, are not unique to the RCC. There ARE "old folks" churches in our circles. But they don't last long.

All churches MUST serve all ages. If they don't they will close.

Soundbear

I think that God knows that a gun never, ever hurt a single person all by itself, and that a gun is just as good an enticement to attendance as any other object.

dancingqueen
07-13-2008, 10:12 PM
that is true, but a person without a gun and a person with a gun make two very different statements. It is the presence or lack of a gun that makes the statement.
I'm not saying guns are bad, I am saying that I don't think God would condone such a thing to be associated with the spreading of his word.

Show me one Christian festival that gathers over one million youths.

Pope JPII gathered the largest crowd in human history in Manila in 1995. Show me the "Christian festival" equivalent of that.
