What the difference between guys getting hammered under fight regulations or not?

Regulated or not, it's violent /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Someone was arguing the fact that it isn't violent /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif This person obviously misconstrued 'violent'.

I really don't think it is anymore violent than hockey. More guys get hurt playing hockey than boxing in my opinion. Boxers work out and they hit each other with gloves. While hockey players get hurt with sticks, elbows, pucks and hitting from behind. JMO

Is boxing a violent sport - yep. Personally however I perfer to watch boxing over many other sports (not that I watch much of any) because I feel that boxers are highly trained and have so much control over what they are doing. The finess of a boxer is second to none, they are fast, light on thier feet, in control at all times.

I enjoy watching boxing, I'm dating myself but Sugar Ray Leonard was my all time favourite boxer to watch.

Why do they call it a boxing ring if it is square??? I think that is pretty stupid.

Men who have only made it half way out of the cave call it a sport.

Like any sport, there is the risk of injury. I think boxers are highly trained atheletes, and I certainly call it a sport. I think it's a heck of a lot more interesting ((and at least it's real)) to watch than that fake wrestling that makes HUGE bucks.

Like some people are bored by golf or tennis, some people dislike the violence of boxing. Just change channels is what I say.

Yes, boxing is a violent sport, but the fighting is honest with rules in the ring, not dirty fighting like they do on a rink or soccer field.

I'm addicted to the UFC. I like violence every once in awhile. It keeps things fresh. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

I watched a UFC fight the other night where guy A accidentally kicked guy B in the groin. The ref didn't see it and didn't do anything to stop the fight, but guy A stopped fighting out of respect for his opponent, apologized, and allowed him to recover before resuming.

In a much more "refined sport" (according to others), I watched a guy hit another across the head with a wooden stick.

Of course combat sports are violent, but it is not malicious violence. It is a competition just like any other sport, but unlike many other sports, there is usually a great deal of respect between opponents.

(BTW - I only watch MMA, not boxing, so I am speaking more about that aspect of combat sports.)

Normally if you hit a guy in the groin in the UFC (from what I've seen) the ref stops the fight and they guy has 5 minutes to recover. I've never seen it take that long, but I couldn't imagine.

P.S. I think I love Forest, and wish I was home to see his last fight. I'll have to wait til it comes on spike.

Shaggy

Yeah, it's 5 minutes, but this time the ref didn't see it.

You gotta love a sport that punishes its competitors with "time outs" for using the lumber or the ever popular composite.

I wish they would adopt the "time out" approach to discipline at work! (Then again, that would give you even more time to stir things up!)

A ring by definition isn't round. It is any object that surrounds, or encloses.

So a ring can be squared, it can be even triangle.
