wow, thanks for posting that MM. I like the old style bulbs better anyways, not those weak hippie ones. looks like in the UK they are already suffering "forced hippyisim" I wonder how much longer before it comes here.

The Department for Environment issued the warning.
I do believe it is in the UK this website and in the UK for these warnings, but i suspect all lights made like that no matter what country have such dangers to them.

These bulbs have had a history from the start and there has already been a incident in the states with a person breaking on in there house last year.
If the average person that bought these new that they had to call out the hazmatt team they would never buy them. All they look at is the fact there told they will save money by putting them in,and I'm sure they average person would just thro them in the garbage not thinking otherwise, since I still see alot of places throw out florescent lights still.
And if you look around the British epileptic seizure counsel have a study started that believes these light bulbs may be triggering seizures

Cell phones have been medically linked to cancer tumors in the brain.

True yes and True no as some experts medical experts state it has been linked, but yeah there is not 100% proof, but only has been linked.

You can link Steel Plant to cancer more than cell phones

In summary, there is now considerable evidence that shows no consistent association between cell phone use and brain cancer, although more research is needed before any definite conclusions can be drawn.

Yes more studies are needed, but i suggest try not to always use the same ear and change from side to side frequently just incase.
I have 2 cell phones and i only use them when i need to, not a daily thing like a landline, but when i am out or emergency usage is all.

We've been using them for several years. The ones I have that get the most use (hall, dining room) have been going strong for three years. From experience, I now only buy ones made by Phillips. Every other kind I've purchased have burned out before their claimed lifespan has been reached. Also, I like the Daylight ones Phillips has, different light, colors look as they do in natural light.

We bought our house 5 years ago this week. When we moved in we changed all our bulbs to the new flourescents...We've had to change one bulb in five years - and that was because it was recalled. Pretty good so far.

The energy saving bulbs are just compact flourescent lights. They save energy, not necessarily extend the bulb life. Depends what you buy.
An example...you buy a pack of 60 watt incandescent bulbs at dollarama, you're lucky to get 1000 hours out of them. However, spend the extra money and buy bulbs such as the Philips Country Royale, which are 130 volt bulbs and have extended life, then you're looking at 5 - 6 times the lifespan.
Same with fluorescents. Buy quality, and you'll get your money's worth.
As for power savings...a 14 watt compact fluorescent (CF) bulb consumes a lot less than a 60 watt bulb.

Some stores don't carry the old bulbs now, there is no noticeable difference in PUC with the new type bulbs unless you have a lot of them on all the time then you might see a few bucks difference.
