View Full Version : SHOPLIFTING....... is it on the increase???

Hardly a day goes by that we do not see the names of shoplifters in our "police beats".The humiliation of seeing your name in print does not seem to deter people. I can only imagine that these thieves are very desperate.I often wonder how many "lifters" got away with it. It must drive retailers nuts and require them to beef up security even more. The bottom line is WE PAY for shoplifting losses in an increased price at the register.

Imagine having to steal under-ware because you can't afford it?

I don't know that there is an increase in shop lifting. I think with technology now, it's just easier to catch the thiefs.

I never could understand how anyone could feel good about taking something that didn't belong to them. I can't even taste a bin candy without paying for it first.

It's on the increase for sure, more and more people are starting to feel the pinch of inflation but most people steal just because they are cheap and don't want to pay for what they want. I think that the media should release pictures of the shoplifters so that when they walk into stores the staff can recognise who they are and keep a better eye on them.

I too am not sure there is an increase in shoplifting or whether better surveillance techniques are just catching more. The vast majority of shoplifters don't do it because they can't afford to buy the stuff or are too cheap to buy it......it is the rush they get from trying to get away with it.Most shoplifters are not caught the first time they do it and they get addicted to the buzz.

I would think that if they all got caught the first time, the shock and humiliation would put a stop to them doing it again.

To say that everyone steals for one particular reason is not right. Some can't afford the things, some can but are just too cheap, some are talked or bullied into it, some can't help it because they are just crazy cleptos. I still say we should post their pictures.

Stealing from the dollarama is low but the lowest is when you steal from those used things drop off boxes. I see it happening all the time, I see the same van all the time , I swear to god it is a hobby for them.

For some $1 is a lot of money. Rather eat then have underware. I'm not saying it's right, but I try not to judge unless I know the whole story when it comes to these kinds of things. Maybe that's because my mother use to work with the homeless people here.

I dont see nothing Wrong with this, I personally see it as nobodys property, They just take it and sell it anyways.
If its out there , I think people should be welcomed to it.

Bottom line is drug addiction. I would say 95% of the people stealing have a major drug addiction. A lot of the stores know who these people are because they steal on a regular basis, but their not always caught. Cocaine addiction(whatever the form) is a lot higher than most people realize in this city. People will do almost anything to feed their addiction.

Actually it's the property of the agency that has their name on the bin. To steal from an agency that sells or gives to the less fortunate is literally stealing from the poor.

well people are donating their used stuff to the poor, so if your poor you should be able to take it. it might be bipassing the agency but at least it's going to the people who need it like the donators intended.

So sad there is so much theft nowadays - there could be numberous reasons: drug addiction, poverty or the shere rush. Anyways all walks of life are stealing: couples, clean cut kids and regular customers
