b&aMom posted this in the soapbox about the greyhound bus incident.

I know what most people's thoughts on the matter are (doesn't take a rocket scientist to know)
I just want to comment, these people exist in our society, in our city. maybe not as attention seeking as these people are, but very similar, they hate without reason, they judge when they have no business judging. The people that say they don't agree with certain lifestyles, are they much different than these people?
Before anyone jumps to any conclusions, I am not talking about gays specificly, but am refering to ways people's lifestyles have changed over the past the way churches are run as opposed to before, how schools are seperated, the clothes people wear etc...
In a way, I think we can learn from these people by doing the exact opposite of these people. I mean does anyone believe they are doing the work of God? or would you say that satin has gotten to them and poisoned their minds? (retorical question /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif )

The question is, DQ, do you know gays who are totally out to lunch when it comes to supporting THEIR way of life??

In every human group there those who are at the edges of sanity.

I suspect the Phelps' are some of them.

Like I said, there are many that walk among us are not that much different than the Phelps'. At what point should free speach become a mental health concern?
On the story in the commens, I think it was at the very bottom a person made an excelent point

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"> Our society guarantees the right to free speech and freedom of religion. Everyone seems to be upset at Phelps-Roper (and justly so), but this is one of those unfortunate outcomes that is allowable under the very freedoms our society guarantees.

These abuses happen because we have a very narrow view that a right is guaranteed legally with no strings attached. Because of that, anytime a view like Phelp-Ropers is squashed, they scream violation of their rights!

My friend has a saying that he uses when raising his kids... "Every right comes with an equal responsibility". In this case, the right to free speech comes with a responsibility to make a positive difference in the world by using speech to protest injustice and to argue for a better world. Similarily, freedom of religion for one comes with a responsibility to live peaceably with others of different faiths.

Too bad our Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, wasn't instead the Charter of Rights, Freedoms and Responsibilities. What a difference that would make!</div></div>

The bible doesn't say, in the context, not to judge at all. It says not to be hypocritical. Quite a difference.

it says judge not les ye be judged. To me that means not to judge unless you are prepared to be judged yuorself... Does that mean someone who lives their whole life not judging people will not face final judgment? I wonder what would happen to them.

No.. the complete verse indicates that you will be judged with the same standard you judge with. In other words, Jesus teaches that what comes around goes around.

Here is the complete context:
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
