13 medals now. We have already improved on our Olympic results from 2004 and, of course, we are now ahead of Belarus. Now if we could just get the medals in the first week next time Canada will be have a very impressive haul in 2012.
Any way, way to go Team Canada!

I don’t know about anyone else…I’m not surprised that the US and China have the most medals. China injected huge amounts of money into its program for these games. The US has always sent a strong team because they have probably have the most funding. It’s all about money. That’s the foundation of any good Olympic program. Or any program for that matter.
Part of our problem is that we accept that whole…’I tried my best…I’m happy to be here’ line. Don’t get me wrong, I do respect our athletes a great deal because they have put so much time and effort into preparing for the Olympics. Many of them have ‘day jobs’. So, to balance the both is impressive. However…(like our health care) if we as Canadians don’t demand better, we won’t get better. Look at hockey…it was in a state of emergency at one point. Changes were made to the overall program. More time into development. People were worried about our program. People talked about it. We cared.
Has anyone ever been bummed because we won a silver on the trampoline instead of the gold?
Has the kayaking program ever gone a major overhaul because we didn’t win a medal one year?
We’d be disappointed with a silver (or no medal) in hockey though. That’s the difference.
We like our hockey…the rest is secondary really.
On a side note…I’m having a really hard time getting into these Olympics. Maybe it’s the time zone thing…I’m not sure. Does anyone have ‘Olympic Fever’?

Not to mention the dismal failure of the U.S. relay teams....funny how both the men and women teams...who were the odds on favourite...both get dsq in their heat. What a joke...this has shades of Mike Johnson pulling up lame against the fastest man in the world at the time....Donovan Bailey...In typical U.S. fashion they "conveniently" get dsq because they know they won't win...which makes me wonder why they haven't pulled out of the middle east yet...
I love it!! Canadians, while battling mighty Belarus for medal count, are ripping on another country's medal performance! /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif

You love what?
You mean your slide in the standing?
Your track athletes resemble your remark about the barrel.
So............compared to the last Olympics....how's it going?
The USA is this Olympics disappointment.
There is no way around it, you have given up way to much to call this year a success.
How do you deal with the failure?

Why don't you put the real standings up...where China is ahead of you...the Official Standings....where they have almost double the gold you have....unless you count chickening out of the relay then give yourself 2 more gold medals...

you know what rwgr , if we had the population base of the u.s our 17 medals would translate to approximatley 118 medals....its the population base that gives you the advantage and NOT your chest beating arrogant ego

Nope, it's based on the amount of athletes sent. We have 596, you have 330...
You lose.
Bad.
and that is why rwgr???? maybe you have more people to draw from....or is that yankee math too?? 240 million ppl 596 athletes.....35 million ppl 330 athletes....you do the math einstein

Wow, you are useless when it comes to numbers /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif
When was the last time the U.S. had "240 million people"? 1960?
We have 302 million, you have 32 million.
And if you want to go with this argument, then tell my why Belarus, with 10 million people to chose from, is tied with Canada in overall medals, and actually has more gold medals, when you have 32 million people??

Australia has 46 metals with only a population of 20 million.
Jamaica has 11 metals with a population of Toronto.
Canada's 18 metals with 35 million people does not look to good buy those standards.
