Useful tools in the kitchen don’t have to come from a “kitchen” store, 2 non-kitchen tools I can’t do without are… A rubber mallet, the type a carpenter uses with a 2-inch head, it is way better to tenderize meat then the metal ones, much easier on your hands and really flattens the meat quickly.
The other is gardener type pruning shears they are much stronger then the run of the mill kitchen shears and de-boning a chicken is a wiz with them and they are great for cutting other things too, and the larger padded handles are easy on the hands.
If you use any non-kitchen tools or other items in your kitchen that make the task easier post it.

I use a putty spreader to spread icing on a cake sometimes if i don't feel like using my spatula.

I also use one of those serated type putty things to do a decorative lines on the side of my round cakes.
