I am running a crappy Compaq computer right now ... I dont want to think of how badly Running a single one of these let alone SLi would bottleneck this =)

Must be some serious flaws in that card to sell it with a $310.00 instant rebate or Nvidia is hurting so bad by ATI sales that they are willing to take such a huge loss on a card such as this one as it can't out perform the higher-end ATI cards.

I still would not buy it .. i would buy a ATI X2 card or 4870 or 2 x 4850's, before i ever thought of buying this card.

I have 2 9800 GX2 SSCs and they are excellent cards.

The reason they are dropping is because they are no longer contenders for the so called bleeding edge award.

Nvidia has the GeForce GTX 280 and ATI has the 4870 x2.
Here is a good review of both on a Skulltrail setup

http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews.php?reviewid=609

I will stick with these cards.
My next upgrade will be MOBO,Processor and Ram

Probably Intel Nehalem based unless AMD pulls something amazing out of their hats.

I agree, 9800GX2's are in the same class as any card, although the top ones get A+...these still get an A.

What CPU/board are you running now Shadowjak?

Put it this way, a single 4850 beats a single 9800GTX

A 4870 is faster than a 4850 (not by much at all)

The ... 9800gtx(Plus) ... is a little faster then a 4850 until you get to resolutions 1920 x 1080 and higher.

4870X2 is 2 x 4870's put together

And a 9800GX2 is 2 x 8800GTS 512MB cards put together

And Crossfire (ATi) also scales better than SLi (nVidia)

GX2 is cheaper (NOW since Nvidia dropped prices) and slower, 4870X2 is a lot faster but costs more (Since ATI has not Dropped Price on it YET).

9800GX2 in SLI beats any ATI setup that I am aware of.

SLI definitively scales better than Xfire...

also....the GPU of a 9800 series is not the same as any G80 or G92 GPU.

You just like to generalize, don't you.

well what is it then. all the information i find says its a G92. which means its the same as my 8800gt, which means aside from the hight speed of chip and memory and a few more pixel shaders. its the same [censored]. different pile

The biggest difference is the memory interface, which gives it additional bandwidth.

Then you're not aware of 4870X2's in crossfire! lol

see now this says the gt has a 256bit mem bus, and all the 9800GTX GPUz screen shots that i have seen show the same. it does not appear to be a recreation of a 8800GTx or ultra with the 384bit interface.

they appear to be almost the same as the gts but with the g92 core

Thats exactly correct '67 L-79

Thats why i posted the 9800GX2 is 2 x 8800GTS 512MB cards put together as there is no significant difference at all.

Hans you obviusly are not aware of the 4870X2 in Crossfire mode otherwise you would have not posted waht you did.

Also i have to state at tis very very very minute cause of the driver support is lacking thusfar for 4870X2 cards .. SLI is scaling slightly better in the top end right tis minute ... that means give it a few driver updates and ATI will once again be OVER the top in scaling just like all of their prevous cards have done.

How much is a 4870X2 in Xfire mode versus a 9800GX2 in sli mode? I think the price speaks for itself...

Well lets see 2 x 4870X2's will stomp, spit and slide all over 2 x 9800GX2 cards .... so for the price .. its worth all the stomping, spiting and sliding they can do.... /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
