I seem to have picked up some hijacking virus. Whenever I try to access a link produced by a Google search I get redirected to a site that is trying to sell some thing or some service. I can use other search engines (dogpile) without problem, but I'm partial to Google.

I've tried Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware but I'm not getting rid of it.

My system restore has also quit working, so I can't even use that as a last resort.

Any ideas?

You'll be lucky if this works, it probably won't, but this would be the first thing I would try.
Make sure you have the latest updates for Adaware, Spybot, and your Anti-virus.
Turn off systems restore and then boot into safe mode.
Try running all three programs in safe mode and then reboot your computer normally and see if it works.

What site does it re-direct you to?

Try downloading and installing Super Antispyware. The free version works just as well as the pro version. Go to http://www.superantispyware.com. Click on the blue button. Install program and do all updates. Boot into Safe Mode, run scan, should be good to go.

Get "hijack this" and post the log file.

Do NOT change anything unless you know what you are doing...

Good luck, I had this get on one of my systems as well.

What worked for me was the MalwareBytes Antimalware scanner.

You don't need to buy it to clean this crap off.
