I've never heard of this before. I stumbled upon this site (found it on an ad on facebook) probably because I've got hunting listed as an activity I enjoy. What is this beta testing? And why would I need to do it to access their site? What is a beta invite?
Thanks in advance for helping! I just don't want to get spammed all the time, or find out too late that it's some sort of virus?
Here's the site:

Basically a beta is software that is still not finished but is out there for testing... Alpha is the beginning, it has some looks may not run right... Beta is more down to it runs somewhat, it looks somewhat like the finished product will... Next you would usually have release candidates which just refine the errors some more and then finished product... But as we know... nothing is ever finished.... just look at windows...
Basically they are just saying the site is open, you can register, but it still needs work...

As a Active Beta tester for both software and web sites like the one you posted above I have never gotten a virus.
Usually when you beta test software you get goodies in return. (Not always, but usually). I once got a software package worth a couple of thousand dollars just for beta testing the package for them.
When you beta test games you also get to play something before most others do.
