Do you need to provide proof of insurance (i.e. a policy number) to purchase a permit?

I ask because I just purchased a sled, and would like to get a permit before prices go up next week. If I can get one without having insurance yet that'd be dandy because it would be way less of a rush.

Just curious...

Coming to Ontario? To snowmobile legally in Ontario, you must have:

a valid driver's license
proof of snowmobile ownership
registration
insurance
helmets

I realize I must have all of that... That wasn't what I was asking...sorry if I was misunderstood.

I was saying, can I buy a permit BEFORE I get insurance put on the sled.

CJ you should be able to either buy it yourself or get someone else to buy it for you. Last year our son bought ours as a Christmas present and didn't have our ownership with him. Your supposed to go to the trailblazers office and transfer ownership later.

Thanks for the reply guys....

I just went up to the trading post and confirmed...

Insurance is NOT needed to purchase, only the ownership. They take cash or credit.

Not even the ownership is needed. I got a permit for a gift last year and the person who bought it for me never had my ownership or knew what kind of snowmachine I had,let alone my insurance.

I just stuck the trail permit sticker to the windshield and off I went.

P.S The prices are going up to $200 - $250 next year.
