"As the prospect of cost cuts and layoffs loom at many corporations, a global survey Wednesday showed Canadian employees get more severance pay per year of service than their counterparts in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Indeed, laid-off Canadian employees earn more severance pay than their U.S. colleagues regardless of their level or tenure with the organization, according to consulting firm Right Management.

The study comes as several employers, such as Rogers Communications Inc., Cameco Corp. and Lakeside Steel Inc., have recently announced layoffs in Canada.

Among involuntary separations, Canadian executives tend to earn 4.66 weeks of severance per year of service, compared to a U.S. mean of 3.04 and a global mean of 3.52 weeks per year of service, the study showed.

Senior executives, managers and professional workers in Canada also received more than in other countries.

The same study also found two-thirds of Canadian companies tend to offer severance with no minimum tenure required compared to 42 per cent doing so in the rest of the world."

Someone is jealous of a Canadian benefit not paid for by the tax payer.

RWGR I will try to use small words to explain this to you. There is a very obscure Canadian concept that you Americans just don't seem to get: Kindness. Sure, sometimes it gets us in a little trouble, but by and large, Canadians tend to be pretty humane to each other. You've just found an example of that - ponder it a little. Maybe there's a lesson there for you yanks. Nah - you just won't get it so instead you'll come back with some smart @@S remark. Now I'm wondering, will it be a 'translation' or will it be a 'RWGR wins!' or maybe a 'White flag accepted'?
