I took a survey of the networks available in my house, and could not believe it.

Not including my own, there are 5 wireless SSID's available.
Out of those 2 are unsecured and wide open.
The 3 others are password protected, but I was able to guess the password on 1.
So that leaves 2 that are more or less secure. The other 3 are available to me and fully working.

This is amazing, since I live at a dead end street and never figured so many would be available...

I imagine this is eventually going to become a serious issue, once someone finds a way to bundle the various wireless networks together.

My laptop sees 12 wireless networks right now in my house. Highest I have ever seen was 18.

Using specialized software I was able to detect and analyze over 30 once.

I live with mostly old people around me so mine is the only one in range.

In my old complex there was a girl who had a network up. Super fast too. It came in handy sometimes. ;)

Mine is password protected. And, even I forget what the password is. LOL!

I'm showing 13 networks here, and 4 of them are wide open. Of the secured ones, I am fairly sure I could open up some of them reasonably easily using the factory passwords. Two years ago, there were about 7 networks and only 2 of them were secured. It's good to know that if I ever need access, or want to spin a few connections together for some powerhouse downloading, that I have the networks available to do it...lol

That's crazy.

Some people just dont' care...I have offered to secure my neighbor's wireless access points and give them some pointers about setting up security on wireless access points, but they don't seem to care. They just say it works and I don't care if others share my wireless links. I also explained that someone could get into your network, and/or router and lock you out from your own Internet access, but they still didn't care...or even brick the router by uploading roguefirmware.....very strange....I got my wireless access point secured and change my SSID and key every month just to be safe......any secured wireless access point is hackable to some degree.....
