Does anyone know of a place that you can donate larger items like desks or a double bed that will come and pick it up? I tried calling St. Vincents but they have a voicemail saying that they are out until January 5. I left a msg but something tells me with that on the voicemail that they won't be getting back to me anytime soon. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

Check out Freecycle. Someone needy will come and pick your stuff up.

I called Salvation Army a few years ago because I had some front room furniture for them, they said they'd pick it up on that Thursday so I traded shifts so that I'd be home but they were a no show. I called them up and they acted like it was the first that they heard of it but said they would come and get it later the next week and once again I never heard anything from them.

I wish I knew whom to call. Called St. Vincents last year and asked them if they wanted a large office desk. They said "Sure".
2 guys show up in a mini-van. Just looking and you could tell it wasn't going to fit, but they tried until they broke a leg off the desk. They then carried it back into the garage and buggered off...nice

St. Vincents showed to pick it up, 2 guys with a half ton very polite and respectful very careful not to hit my walls or muck anything up. I was impressed.
