When i play games its so sluggish, i think its my new video card takes up to much power, i think hp puts crappy power supplies in all there computers

here are my current specs

HP Pavilion

AMD athlon 64 X2 dual-core 4400+ 2.3ghz
2x 1 gb pc5400
Geforce 9800 gtx+ 512mb PCIe 2.0(just bought From Futureshop)
250 Watt power supply
400gb hd
gxt 400w vga booster (bought from futureshop and techie there told me it would fix my lag issues in games and i got them to install it but same issues)

I am looking to upgrade so i can play starcraft 2 on max settings

if anyone has any suggestions please tell

Never buy a pre-made/factory system if you want to game.
They almost always have the absolute lowest system specs to run your hardware available.
I've seen HP's/Dell's...ect. that have inadequate power supplies. Mother boards that won't run the ram at the same speed as the FSB of the cpu or support, but will work.

The only thing I can think of is a real power supply and more ram if you are running Vista.

next time add the HP Pavilion model #

My friend has that card and is playing Far Cry 2 maxed out @ 1440x900, no AA.

It's not your card.

Only difference is he has 4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM and an Intel E7200 @ 3.2GHz.

I would suggest Intel this time around and a P45 chipset, but depends on your budget.

Are you using XP or Vista...if it's Vista you'd need more RAM to game.

If it's XP it may be sluggish from something a little more obscure. Can you borrow a beefy (550W+) PSU to test?

Sorry also agree with Andre...if you want to game on good settings, build a PC...it's cheaper than buying a OEM and adding a vid card after or buying a "gaming" system from and OEM

i am thinking of buying

Asus P5N-D Motherboard CPU RAM Bundle - nForce 750i SLI, Socket 775, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Processor OEM, Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB)

from tigerdirect its 450+ taxes and shipping

and i am going power supply 700watt (OCZ GameXStream 700-Watt Power Supply) 150+taxes and shipping

and a new case Ultra Gladiator Black ATX Mid-Tower Case 70+ taxes

do you guys think those are good prices and do i have to buy a 64 bit operating system because of the 4 gigs of memory or can i keep my vista ultimate 32 bit os
