View Full Version : I don't know why!

I'm redoing a 91 D150 with a 3.9 V6, auto. I have the body well under way but I want to change the transmission from a three to a four speed. The problem is there is no listing for a 91 full size with a four speed auto. The closest I can come is a 90 Dakota with a four speed. Will it fit or am I looking at modifications? Also does the trans. require a computer back up?

I have talked to the scrap yards and Superior Chrysler but not a hell of a lot of information from either.

If your talking dodge then I can't help..But if you call any trans shops in town they may be able to steer you in the right direction. Call Dave at Quality Care Transmission ...

Auto trans run off the computer. If you change the tranny you are going to have to change the computer as well that will match the engine and the tranny.

See! You just witnessed a complete brain fart! Transmission shop, whodathunkit? DUH! I can with very little effort be a real dork.

I was afraid I'd need a computer transplant. Doesn't anything work strictly mechanical any more?

While I'm thinking of it. Are there any Canadian suppliers of drop spindles for a Dodge?

Really Dad - dropped spindles? What's next 50 series rubber, 4" chrome stacks out the box, and west coast mirrors. Dude we drive DODGE! It's like putting lipstick on a pig! Most days I am pleased as punch that it simply starts. I get what your looking for with the four speed tranny though. I drove that truck on the highway! with the three speed it sounded ready to fly apart! We'll talk buddy.
