View Full Version : Anyone noticed Shaw speed increase?

For some reason I now average 12 Mbit/sec on http downloads? This was tested downloading a 600 Mb iso image, so it was not affected by speedboost. It's also a completely flat line, meaning there was no slowdown during the download process.

I know Shaw is adding speed boost to high speed accounts and from what I have heard they are increasing extreme to 15Mbps and high speed to 7.5Mbps, but I heard that won't be till summer.

The letter I got in the mail today tells me that it has already happened and for only $19.95 a month for the first three months it could be all mine!

Does not look like it, just doing a test and still getting 10Mbps on extreme. I know the speed boost has been added.

Only way to tell is to do a large speed test. The speed tests on most sites are not big enough to tell you what your true speed is because the speed boost fudges the results...

Try the 100Meg file and see what it gives you. If you are on extreme it will give you about 1.2MB/s. On high speed you should get about 600KB/s. If you take these and multiply them by 8, to get kbps, which you then divide by 1000 to give you how many Mbps approximately.

I heard not until may or june too. They started in BC and Alberta in January and a friend told me about 2 weeks ago that his went up early in Thunder Bay. Maybe they're rolling it out sooner.

You realize much of your speeds depend on the source. You won't get it any faster than the person sending to you on the other side... if they are slow you will be slow.

Well shaw does have that new 100Mbps Nitro which would be pretty sweet, except it's 100 Mbps down...5 Mbps Up...200 GB/month data transfer...$249.95 bundled...269.95 standalone. You could hit your cap in 4 hours at that speed lol and it's just about 5x more than I'm willing to pay for internet.

Nitro? I've been waiting almost 3 YEARS for Nitro, but there's that NOT AVAILABLE IN SAULT STE. MARIE OR CRANBROOK! That's not there now, but what about the $93 on Shaw's homepage for Nitro??? Also, if 100Mbps down/5Mbps Up is loosely translated to NORMAL Xtreme speed of 1.2 MB/sec Down BUT NOW its 500Kb (half meg) UPLOAD.....

THATS A SH*T TON OF CASH FOR UPLOADING!!!!! From 128Kb to 500kbish!!!

Which is it? Nitro $93 or the one you mentioned above????? HELP!!!

They're changing the name of the Nitro you're thinking of to Highspeed Warp and the new Nitro is 100Mbps.
It's only available in Saskatchewan right now while they're testing it. Started about 2 weeks ago I think.

I would get 2 extremes and combine them for 30 Mbps and 2 Mbps up. The rest is to much for what it is, and I doubt they will give you the full 100 Mbps seeing they are complaining about users on 10 Mbps bogging down nodes and throttling them. Just imagine a couple P2P on the same nodes going at it at 100 Mbps each...

You must not be on high speed Nitro. You should switch and get double the download speed, lol.

reset your modem or power cycle it.
The modem needs a firmware update to get the new speeds.
