I just bought my father a digital Single Lens Reflex camera body for fathers day/birthday. It should come in hopefully on Monday from Future Shop. I didn't get the kit lens with it, as he will be using my lenses from 1989.
Yes, you heard right, he will be able to use lenses that I haven't used in well over 15 years.
Pentax has one advantage that many other manufactures do not have, and that is lens compatibility. You can even buy adapters for screw mount lenses, and they work exactly as they used to back in the old days, with the aperture ring working like it should, etc. Those lenses I have, are from my Pentax SF10 that was bought for my High School photography class that was taken in 88-89. They will work perfectly with this very modern camera.
Anyways, I am excited to get this, and I dearly hope he will be pleased.
It is 10 megapixels, has anti shake tech much like the Sony a100, has weather sealing in the body (a pro camera feature), no scene modes (thank you, I find them annoying in the least, and ignored mostly on my Canon 20D), very interesting program shift modes coupled with ISO (I wish my Canon does this), dust removal system (why doesn’t my 20D have something like this…sigh), etc...
All for just under $1000!

The next link is a real good review warehouse site that compiles many reviews across the net into one place on photographic equipment.
