why create something similar?

A baseball field with a park and a statue.
if you build it they will come? i don't think it's much of an attraction

A concert shell, with a few stands that can seat 200.
see: bellevue park, pavillion.

An RV Park. For a stop when people come through.
=\

A new hotel. To boost our town's tourism.
could be a possibility

A grocery store, The nearest one Kelly's. Thats SMALL

lol i agree there, the permanent one should of been made long time ago.
The Sault was the guinea pig when they started making these casinos and now we are the only one without a permanent one dangitt... think if we were as big as Kewadin here we could pull in concerts and all everything they do across the river now... just goes to show that they wanna keep this city on the backburner

How about something like Borealis? There is this guy named Garforth looking for a site to develop. :)

New hotels do not boost tourism, they serve tourism.

What about a scrap metal yard?

I submitted my idea, "Great Lakes Place" to the Gateway committee, I don't know what will come of it. It includes a year round indoor water park (shaped in the great lakes) each representing a different water attraction or wave pool ..., a year round indoor winter park, with bobsleds, snow boarding and skating and it's all tide together with a fifty storey observation tower with permanent casino and restaurant at the top. A highrise hotel replacing the current casino and connecting to the gateway site. I dream big :)

rly. It's got over 300 visits so far, many from High schools. And I actually like that
"Great Lakes Place" idea.. Awsome suggestion, huckerby!

I agree with "how about none of the above".

Craig, your dreams are great, but far from what this city can afford. We needed a new hospital, and can ill afford it. Statistics already show that changes in design from cut-backs are making it into a sick place before it's even open. They KNOW that, and didn't do a thing to correct the design because of the budget.
What you propose would cost as much if not far more.

At this time, we can't really afford ANYTHING being done there. You can't get water from a stone. If we had huge sucessful industries and the city (and the States) were financially secure, I'd say go for it. We'd have to rely on tourism mainly from the States, and face it, they are in financial ruin right now. We can't look to them for much of anything. I'm sure even US fishermen and hunters who have been coming up to Canada annually for years, have to sacrifice and cancel their trips up here now. Until the States is back on their feet, I think it would be ludicrus to do anything with the site. It would go belly up.

From what I understand, the only public money is the 15 million from the NOHFC, the rest is private investment, private development. Since no developer has come forward with a plan, the City is requesting ideas to present to a developer to build. Unless things have changed, I don't think the City was willing to fund this.

I think we should sell the property to Sault Michigan. Then we wouldn't have to cross a congested bridge to get cheap gas and beer.

I'd like to see an open air style merchant centre along that extension of the boardwalk, built on piers above the river. Their can be an outdoor cafe area, and vendors can set up little booths to sell their merchandise. For the rest of the area, an exhibition centre could be built to accomodate indoor and outdoor events.

Hey, I think this is an excellent idea, and not as costly as some of the ideas on here. An exhibition center would bring lots of tourism if we brought in decent exhibitions. The Soo has never had a "real" flea market, and I think it would go over well.
