SAUSAGE BUYERS BEWARE

When my wife went grocery shopping she bought sausages the other day.

I cooked them up today on the BBQ, a 6 pack. I always cut two in half to make sure they are fully cooked.

So we ate the other 4 for supper, when I was cleaning up the kitchen I noticed tens of little white worms grouped up in the sausage!

THIS IS DISGUSTING

Doesn't have a name on the package.. just says Mild Italian Sausage.

They were fresh there, bought fri or sat. Put in the freezer right after purchase. Taken out around 3, unwrapped and cooked around 5.

I have always found that stuff from the F.B. store is not always fresh. If something is supposed to be cold, it sometimes isn't. I have bought dairy items from there before and they have frequently expired way before the date. I only buy non-perishables there. I mostly shop at N.F.

When I cut the sausage the worms WEREN'T apparent.

But.. if you look closer, i'll get a better picture. They are poking out the outer skin of the sausage too. Its not just in the middle.

They had a plate over it after the fact, and there isn't any flies in the house that I can see.

And if that was the case. The left over portion after my meal had the worms in it too. And that was from my mouth to counter, seconds later I saw it.

And I know there was no flies around me at the time.

they were wrapped/sealed obviously cuz they dont have a deli there so the issue is with the meat company/manufacturer & not the store that sold them, i would think.
it wouls seem that were contaminated prior to sealing.
dont be a sissy & eat em up.

I have the sausge in a ziplock bag for freshness right now, after the appointment i'm going to the AHU and i'll take it from there.

After the research i made need shots for RICHINOSIS, or tape worms.

does anyone pay attention when bying meat at places such as no frills or food basics!!! (nothing neg to anyone either) just woundering am I the only person that has noticed this!!

Food basics meats are the same as a&p, same suppliers, I do realize a&p has butcher on site I do think, but I also think one butcher cuts for a&p and food basics and then is transported from the main store out to the little stores such as food basic, all the discount tags ect are all the same as a&p as well as packageing and aswell as actual stickers, they just do not say a&p, and I have been told this in the past

Meh. I'm having pork ribs for supper. I've had friends with cancer who researched all kinds of stuff and went real rigid on eating, all organic, vegan, blah blah. It wasn't long before they were all saying "pass the hot dogs." It's just not realistic to swear off anything that might potentially be harmful or get bugs from time to time.

That's exactly why I won't buy meat from discount stores. I dont think that they follow the guidelines of how to store meat very well. I bought some pork chops at one of those store once that looked very nice. Brought them home and they were blue on the other side. I brought them back with my receipt and was asked what I had done to them. I was asked if I left them in my car for a long time. I showed them the time stamped receipt, and what time it was then (no more than 30 minutes) then they gave me my money back, but no before offering to exchange for a new package of pork chops.

I think you mean 'Trichinosis'. It is a roundworm commonly found in undercooked pork. Make sure you boil sausages before you place them on a bbq, as the bbq will not reach the adequate internal temperature to kill them if they are there. It is strongly advised that pregnant women not eat undercooked pork for this reason.

Some years ago I got samenela food poisning(sp) from eating veal from a local resteraunt that is not there anymore. But was on GNR. Was in ICU for 4 days. I thank my lucky stars I'm still alive. Never ate veal again. The AHU said "not at that resteraunt." Good job I was in ICU or I would have told them something. Believe me.
