I can almost bet this is an automatic, and an A4LD tranny to boot.....I am thinking you might be needing to replace the whole thing. Taking out that tranny is a pain, more so depending if 4 wheel drive....you probably fried the reverse clutches, and with that tranny, you might as well just get another, rebuilding it is expensive and not really reliable. The tranny has a tendency to work too hard, specially if you have a 4.0 ranger engine in front of it. The catalytic convertor is waaaaaaaaaay too close to the servo on the tranny and will boil the liquid in lots of stop and go traffic breaking it down quicker then normal and wearing out the tranny.....once the gears are stuck and won't shift out, your done....

good luck dude :| fire away if you have any questions :) I have known rangers since I was kid...

My brother bought a new Ford Ranger(2008) and he hates it.
When he bought it there was a money back Garrenty and they told him, nope, you bought it.
He looked into the lawyer and suiting ford, but opted out.
He'll never buy a Ford Truck again.

/nor will I
//or my mom
///or sister
////or anyone we know2

ya and replace a wheel berring on the frontier and let us know how u feel LMAO imports are nice but COST a hell of a lot to fix and the frontier is rated in consumer affairs mag and one of the top 10 worst vech

frontier bearing 293.99
ranger bearing 241.99

50 bucks isn't much of a difference

water pump
54.99 frontier

61.99 for ranger

some parts will be more for each vehicle, but not all imports cost a fortune to repair

I have/had 2 rangers...trust me...I'll take a frontier over them anyday

and i might add.....I drive both the same,..lol.....there's no comparison.

The last ranger i had was a 94.....in 2000, the cab mounts rusted away, and everytime i went around a corner or stopped, the cab rolled side to side or jumped up back & forth when i stopped....lol.....I didnt mind the truck but, i was replacing part after part, and now the 2000 4x4 is starting to do the same with 100, 000 on it.....so, i dunno, rangers and north american trucks are fine but, you cant beat an import for dependability and drive train. I dont mind my ranger but 100,000 and i already replace a front wheel bearing, my 4wd had to be fixed 3 times already, the truck has that electronic switch 4x4....not a good system at all.....and good thing i knew a guy up at cambrian nissan, the wheel bearing was almost $500, then i got it for 250$, so say what you want depending on the part, i'm sure they both have expensive parts to repair, no one truck any better than the other that way.....JMO

ur right x-man every company has its problems it just deppends on what one you want to have personaly i dont want GM due to electrical problems and gaskets on the 3.1 3.4 and 3.8 litter serries motors even with myself doing the work it is still expensive to do these repairs i would rather change wheel brearings than gaskets or tracing elec problems
