I was in a store today and received poor customer service, the staff were just plain rude when I asked them a question. I called later to speak with the manager and she was even worse then her staff! Seriously, I have never seen so much attitude! I googled the company website but the page is down. What do I do next?

I wish I could forget about it! I don't think they should treat people that way though. I only wanted the manager to know that the staff are rude for no apparent reason and act as if they're not there to answer customer's questions. Apparently the manager's attutude has rubbed off on the staff.

I would also be interested in knowing what store it is, I've been to way too many stores with low standards for customer service. Some managers need to realise just how far word of mouth can go and how quickly poor customer service potential attitude towards the business.
Got it and replied. Thanks! :)

I am nosey as well, please PM me with the store's name, address, phone number, what they sell and who the employer and employees are.
Seriously, why bother telling everybody what store it is? They could just be a few bad workers, if the manager wasn't helpful ask for the owner. If I owned a store I'd rather hear about the problem and come to a solution then have the customer gossip to other people and have all of them not come to my business.
If you were a good owner and respected your customers you would make sure your customers would not be treated poorly by your employees by setting a higher standard in customer service and enforcing it. Also if the manager was not helpful and not willing to address the problem, they should not be a manager.

i find that rude customer services folks is a result of rude customers ... we are only hearing your side, I am sure if we talked to the customer service person you are refering to, they will have a different story.

Who's to say the owner isn't a good one and doesn't respect his customers? The owner may think his employee's provide good customer service. Why? because he/she hasn't received a complaint from the customers. What good does it do him/her when the customers who were treated poorly go off and complain to their friends and randoms on the internet and not tell him/her.
They have service excellence courses for a reason. If the owner knew how some of the employee's are then he/she could schedule a mandatory customer service course.
MommyOf2 said she contaced the manager to address the issue. It's the managers job to address any concerns the customer may have after or during a visit, and if the manager is unable to do so, the owner should not put this person in that position. Word of mouth does go a long way in any business, especially when your employees are dealing with the customers face to face on a daily basis, a good owner would understand this and make sure his empolyees are all doing the jobs they were hired to do. I think a lot of owners seem to take for granted the business they receive. Without the customers they wouldn't have a business to run.

Those folks were GREAT to me. I had 4 people hunting down a potato peeler. And another two trying to find those disposable cloths i like.
I frequent there a lot, and I love each and everyone one of them. GOOD JOB!
I'm not saying that mommy didn't receive bad service, it's just I have never had a problem there. And ID said it best, a lot of the time it's the customer giving off negative attitude, and they get it back, and all of a sudden they are poor customer service.

I had a problem with one of the staff. She was rude and acted inconvenienced by my questions. When I called the manager I received even more attitude from her. By the end of my phone call to the manager I definitely gave off "negative attitude" to the manager but prior to that no I did not.

No i will gladly take my time and explain stuff to people and give them full attention and give them the answers they are looking for and if i can't give them the answers i will get some one who can. I get along great with people and if i can tell some one is having a bad day when they come in I will try to make them smile, make them realize that today is not the end of the world, but i will not tolerate being sweard at and yelled at and verbaly abused, and yes it does happen more then you think. Typical situation, i happen to be wandering through a section of the store and a customer will ask me for help, i will inform them that i don't work in this section but i will try my best, customer ask's me a question and i say well i am not a hundred percent sure but let me get so and so and they know alot about this stuff... customer yells at me.. "why the "F" did you say you could help me if you have no "f"ing idea about anything in here. I mean i warned him that i would try my best and i didn't work in that section. Now how is that fair to me? yes i just smiled and walked away and got the person for that department, but if i would of said that to him i would of lost my job...

Haha true story i had a girl who's phone rang during the middle of her transaction. I told her the amount and she went on and continued her conversation for 5 whole min. And i had another customer waiting behind her... and she stepped aside still talking on her phone and i told her again the amount of her transaction and she gave me the "hold on a min" finger, and so i just suspended her transaction and took the person behind her, when she was finished her phone conversation ( i took another 2 people during that time) she said I was being rude for taking other people and wanted to talk to my manager. Seriously...

Yeah that is ridiculous. In my line of work (I work in a convenience store), when someone goes to make a purchase, and then decides to take another few minutes to grab a few items across the store, I simply void their transaction and continue with the lineup. I have requested that a person go to the back of the line because after they themselves have waited a few minutes in line, they decide to take their sweet time picking out a bag of Doritos after all their other stuff is checked through. I may be an a$$hole but I am not there for you to hold up my line.

It just gets to me. When people come into a store, ask an associate for help, they start helping them then their phone rings and they have a full conversation, instead of ignoring it or saying i will call you back or something. You will see it all the time, take a stroll through any home improvemt store... And what annoys me more is the people on cell phones who talk 20 times louder then they would normally talk..

Yep same thing although i don't work at a convenience store. But then you as the employee are the bad person. You made their lives a total disaster because they had to wait an extra 2 min... Because the world is supposed to stop for them... As a consumer i am not perfect. I mean I do get annoyed at times, but i do understand that everyone has a job to do and it is not my job to tell them how to do their job. From being treated like crap from other customers, i don't take my frustrations out on the associate, i just let it pass. I know how it feels to be the one at the end of someones frustrations and it sucks and i don't want to pass that on to some one else.

Well this may bring out the a$$hole in me again but for some reason I love denying people smokes and lottery tickets, just because I can. For instance, I once carded this young punk 4 times in one night for lottery tickets. The OLG states that I am supposed to card anyone that requests lottery tickets that appears under the age of 25. So I followed the rules. Even though I knew full well that this guy was 18 years old, I still carded him because I love saying "Nope....cant give you smokes/scratch tickets without ID".
Giggle Squirt
03-21-2009, 01:02 AM
The whole id thing does not bother me. If i plan on going to buy lotto tickets then i will have my id ready. I know people who work at stores that get set up all the time because they will send under age kids in and they will ask for smokes and such and they will sell them to the minor. I had a friend who got fined for that. If it is your job requirement to ask for id, then i would ask for id, I value my job to much to throw it away for some minor thing like that.

I have not had any issues with the store in question, however I do think that a lot of employers need to seriously raise the bar a little bit when it comes to their customer service policies. I too have worked in public, in the customer service field and have dealt with a lot of attitude, but as much as every customer is not pleasant to deal with there are a lot of employees that just don't care what the customers think of them and the level of service provided. The policies set towards customer service are a direct reflection of how much customers are appreciated and how those policies are enforced are a direct reflection of how much the owner actually cares for the company. The employee is getting paid to provide a service, and if the employee fails to do so then I think there is cause for complaint.

I got ID'ed a couple of times this week. The second time (yesterday) I asked the woman if she was blind or something because she scrutinized my ID then showed her co-worker. They both started at me (and I was in a hurry to get to class so I was not in the mood lol). Anyway, she finally handed it back and she had this look on her face like she thought I was using someone else's ID. So I asked her if she was blind. I am almost 40 for God's sake.

It may be kind of flattering for a woman to get ID'd but it is also annoying. When it happens to me, I am not prepared with my ID, I am usually in a hurry and I have to dig through a huge purse for my wallet. Then I have to go through my ID as well as my kids'. Once I give the ID to most people I am then looked at kind of strangely. (Yeah, we all have those days when we look like crap and I had a picture for my ID taken that day. It was over four years ago as well. So DUH I may not look like that today).
The chicks at the one gas station were pretty rude about it on Thursday. I was definitely not rude. Only at the end of the interaction with her when I asked if she was blind. That was after I had paid for my friend's cigarettes and was about to walk out of the store.
I know the woman who asked for my ID has been working there for some time; over a year anyway. I used to go there and buy cigarettes when I was still smoking. And she was not ID'ing literally everyone because two people before me were not ID'd.
So, that's my story lol. It is just one of the inconveniences that happen to me a lot and really tick me off. :P

In ignorance is the customer always right. No one in a regular job get's paid to smile, they get paid to complete tasks, to complete a service an employer needs. Smiling is an extra, if you come in with a bad attitude (ie thinking customer is always right) Then you deserve to have your food spat in, your clothes pre-worn by someone with full body sores.

LOL ya right! I'm not getting paid to smile...they are. In a good business THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!
Keep up the attitudes lose the customers and your job. No skin off my ass!
I wish I was getting paid to smile. I am not, I am getting paid to preform menial tasks. people that think the customer is always right are likely people that have crappy lives and crappy things going on that they try and better themselves by feeling there is a place where they can always be right. You can't buy self respect or self confidence.

Well about 8 months ago I wnet to a local dealer to purchase an SUV. Talked with the owner and I asked if I could see the one he had on the lot. His response to me was that he didn;t think I could afford a luxury SUV so he was not going to waste his time with me. 2 days later i went to Toronto and bough tone there. Came home and took it for service the forst time after about a month. He saw me and asked where I had bought my truck. I explained that I went to Toronto and bought it with no questions asked and paid cash for it. Also explained that they let me test drive it and actually wanted to deal with me. Guy just walked away and did not say a word! In my opinion worst customer service ever! Then they wonder why they can't sell anything here.
Growing up, watching most of my family on welfare, they were the worst to customer service reps. I don't know if they got some sort of satisfaction out of it, but I think it was more of "they felt low being on welfare, only way to get above them was put them down".
Don't know what is wrong with just smiling, 1 person isn't responsible for the whole company, if I ever had any issues with any worker, i didn't stop going, I just stopped asking that person questions.

See thats where some car dealers go wrong. They assume that if a family of 5 comes to the lot that they are looking for a minivan when in fact the dad could be looking for a Mustang or the wife could be looking for a sports car.

My problem was not what you describe but it was the cost of the vehicle.

My point covers the fact that even if some guy comes off the street in slightly dirty clothes (not saying that you wear dirty clothes), some assume that he wouldnt be able to afford a high end SUV or a Cadillac. See where I am going with this?

Depends on the store and what it sells if it sells something no body else does on either side of the ditch then you are forced to deal with them,in that case I just never deal with that salesperson.
