View Full Version : Fireworks were great, but a lil pissed off

My family and i joined my sister's family (Nessy) down at the pavilion for the fireworks. They were absolutely beautiful. A great time with great family. However, what really pissed me off was the fact that were a group of minors right beside us drinking, smoking weed, and cursing like truckers. My sis went and got security but what is one officer going to do against 15 kids. I think they need actual police surveillance at these things because these teenagers were mouthy and showed no respect. My daughter is now feeling very ill from the smell of the weed. Sorry for the rant. Happy Canada Day!!!
Very Ill.. or have the munchies???????
On a serious note, yeah they should have more police presence. Its not right.

ummm well she feels really dizzy and very sick to her stomach
I'd keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn't get cold sweats. Other than that, its almost completely harmless.
We almost had an inncodent like that last year. But there was me, my sisters boyfriend, my 3 uncles and their 4 friends.
So ther kids were out numbered and left in a hurray.

Um.. nothing personal and not meaning to start a flame war but instead of complaining about it.. why not just move? Not like there is only one place to watch them.
Granted you shouldn't have to move, but if nothing is being done, then moving is the next logical step.

it is crazy that there are not more police around at these events. the sad part is with these kids they know they can get away with it because nothing will happen to them because they are minors.i say stop protecting these kids and treat them like they should be.

why should we have to move. why should law abiding people have to move and let these little punks do what they want.if i would not get into to trouble i would not have been as nice as the police would have been to them.

well where we were there was no real place to move 9 ppl comfortably. I would have liked to punch some of them and knocked their butts out but then i would go to jail.
Calis, there is hardly anywhere to pick up and move kids to a better location, its first come first server at these events.
I would've found Chuck Norris and got them a roundhouse kick to their teeth!
Cuz when Chuck Norris falls in the water, he doesn't get wet. No..... the water gets Chuck Norris.

We set ourselves up in our usual spot to watch the fireworks, but they set them off further up river by the malll instead of by city hall where they usually do so most of our view ended up being blocked by the pavilion. Last year we had a perfect view. This year, it sucked. Next year we're just going to park our car at the mall and watch from there.

Apparently no one here remembers their teenage years and how obnoxious they must have seemed to others. If you said no to that statement.......i don't believe you.

My family always went down to the Library to watch the fireworks. And you were able to see them perfectly. This year the work fireworks were further down and we could barely seen, buildings and trees were in the way. We weren't happy.

I couldn't stand that kind of teen when I was a teen! There is no excuse for being rude, obnoxious and inconsiderate - at any age.
However there was a group of young teens behind us yelling and swearing right in front of our kids (11, 7, 5, 3, 20 months, 4 months). I just turned around and politely asked them to watch their language and they were kind enough to apologize and stop, which impressed me.

you missed the part where I said "seemed to OTHERS" of course you would think your behavior was cool to yourself. Not everyone around you.

some people were just raised right i guess because i was never like that either. i was not perfect by any means but i also had respect for others.

Purvis Marine is the one's that provide the tugs and the barge for the fireworks. If anyone was mad about the way they moved them from the location they were at last year, I think we should all call Purvis on Tuesday and complain and tell them to put them back in the middle of the river again. Anyone that was at the library didn't get to see much - unlike every other year.

Not just the library - the view was also blocked for every one on the east or south side of Roberta Bondar - and there were many. I imagine there were also quite a few at city hall who didn't see much either. Most of the fireworks were set off around the curve in the river in front of station mall and were so low they barely cleared the pavilion.

While we are at it get Purvis to move their outfit further west

I thought having the fireworks move along the water was a great idea. It allowed more people to see them. People you are down by Zellers don't normally get a great view. This year was better for them. I was right at the Pavillion and had an awesome view. I thought this years was the best I've been to in a long while. The fireworks were nice together, no long gaps, easy to see and it lasted for 20 minutes. My kids and I had a great time.

i thot the fireworks were lovely, and it was so nice to see so many families out enjoying them. we did have some noisy, obnoxious teens beside us for awhile too. they were upsetting for everyone in the area. i agree perhaps a stronger police presence would help tone them down.

you're in a movie theatre and a big fat smelly guy sits beside you
the main problem is that this slob should bath and/or use deodorant, however, in the mean time, the solution which would be best serve you; move to another seat. I totally agree, there should have been someone there with authority to send them off, but it's not like moving from the back row to the front row, the view is pretty much the same all along the river.
anyway, i hope your daughter feels better tomorrow

It was different having the fireworks moving up the river like they did. No better, no worse, as far as I was concerned. It's always a big family event for us, and as always, we all enjoyed it (with exception of my 6 year old nephew who still hasn't gotten over his fear of the loud noise).
One thing I will never complain about is the fireworks. And I explained this to my 2 sons tonight as well. Some years may be better than others, but it is free entertainment, and we should always appreciate the work and DONATIONS (thousands of dollars) that go into the 20 minutes for our enjoyment.
Thank you very much!! Our family was thrilled!!

The fireworks in Sudbury were pretty good this year, except for the mosquitos. Unfortunately, I was nowhere near your waterfront, so it couldn't have been this "trucker" cursing up a storm near you. Since there are an abundance of call centers in the Sault, why not stereotype those employees and say they were "cursing like TSR's"?

Ya, lets all phone in and give them a piece of our minds after all just because they are doing it for free and out of the kindness of their heart they could have at least phoned Trouble ahead of time to find out where they would be standing so as to set up so that they'd get a good view. How stupid could they be by moving the barge so that everybody else might get a better view.

Same here. Brought my two boys down and they had a great time. We were at Pine St. Marina area. It is what you make of it, loved the whole show and time spending together.
So what that they were blocked at times. that would happen no matter where they have them.
Those that are off today, enjoy your day, that is , unless someone is blocking your way. /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Where I was standing on the boardwalk with my friends and a whole bunch of little ones around, some guy punched another guy in the face just because he walked into him. One of the parents spoke up about it. I think the guy was trashed.

And what makes that a joke? Second hand weed smoke causes problems for a lot of people. When I was younger,I used to have regularly leave parties if they started smoking the stuff..and not because I was nervous about the law showing up.And I know many others who react the same way.So if it can make an adult feel so crappy, imagine what it can do to a kid.
Some proponents of easing pot laws try to make it sound as if there are NO not-so-nice consequences to pot use.....they're wrong.(And I'm in favour of decriminalizing simple possession.)

We had a prime spot...then a bunch of twelveteens showed up on their bikes, drove their bikes into the trees to "park" them...yeah real cool! (NOT!!!!) They soon got the drift and moved them, only to lay them down on the ground taking up ooddles of space...can't win I guess.
Then a few minutes later a group of older kids showed up on the other side of us. I'm "figuring" (sarcastically) that they were not minors...they were all openly drinking beer. Security was a crock...walked right by them and never said a word.
We ended up leaving when the twelve-teens brought out their smokes and lit up, within seconds my son was having a full blown asthma attack....yes WE left! My son's health is far more important that the stupidity of a bunch of "kids".

No you shouldn't have been the one to have to move but.......if someone was smoking weed in my daughters face to the point she got ill from it I'd freaking move no matter how inconvenient it is. Even if that meant missing the fireworks.
Some people boggle my mind.

I agree, Tippi. If it were me, I would have moved, even if I had 50 people with me and found somewhere else to watch the fireworks.

First, a smelly guy in a theatre is not breaking the law.
Second, I would have reported them to the police and not security. Crime is crime. You could have played it cool and had a 10 minute conversation with them. You probably could have gotten their names out of them before moving off. Then made the call by cell.
Third, I would have moved if my child was present. I would not have found it funny if he got a buzz off the smoke or felt ill because of it.
Fourth, some people do react to getting ill from weed. Also, if the child is very young it can cause that reaction. It isn't funny.
Fifth, I think moving the barge so that others could get a better view was a good idea. However, I also think they should have notified the public that they were going to do that before it happened.

Honestly I enjoyed the fireworks a lot, and no we didn't have the greatest view at some points but that was ok. It was my sons first time seeing the fireworks and it was super neat to see them through his eyes. We left half way through as it was late, and we wanted to beat the traffic, but as far as I am concerned it was awesome. I dressed him up all cute, there will be pictures in the appropriate thread shortly! /ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

i was the guy he punched...
all i was doing was standing there talking to a group of friends and this guy pushes on my backpack looking to start something, i look at him and he comes back asking me what i was looking at, and all i kept telling him was just walk away i don't want to fight. and next thing you know, i was looking at my friends again and i had a fist make contact with my jaw.
it was a pretty weak punch considering i was on my rollerblades at the time and i wasn't expecting the punch and it still didn't knock me down. i just stared at the guy till someone else told him to go away.
needless.. thats all i have to say about that

okay, here is what I don't understand. You said that your daughter became ill from the "weed" smoke. Why didn't you move?? Did your stubborness to move impact you daughter's health and welfare??? So when all is said and done, and the smoke clears, Your daughter suffers the concequences of your actions. What are you complaining about, your actions of staying put and allowing your daughter to be exposed to this is as obnoxious a behavior as any.

I think we are assuming she got sick there. She might have gotten sick afterwards and hindsight is pretty cool. He might have thought that she would not have a reaction to the second hand smoke from it. I highly doubt he put his kid at risk on purpose.

first of all i did try and find the police but was unable. the problem didnt start with just the weed it started with under agers drinking and swearing which i dont feel we should have to move . the smoking weed happned towards the end and once she realized what was happening and her daughter not feel good she did leave.

ty Nessy..I am sorry but my daughter's well being means more than anything..the kids came and left after sceurity talked to them..they ended up returning about 15 mins before the fireworks ended, my family and I did try to resolve the issue but it didn't work. I did move my daughter a few times, they just kept moving closer to be ignorant. What was I supposed to do ..go and demand that ppl move to make room for all of us cause some punk [censored] kids need an attitude adjustment. My daughter started to feel sick after we had gotten home. There were others around us that spoke to these kids too so it wasn't just us. These ppl had children as well, only to be told I smoke weed, I smoke crack so deal with it. My daughter is feeling fine today which I am happy about however if I ever acted like those kids did I would have learnt my lesson real quick. I guess ignorance is bliss

Maybe you should have been more discrete and just moved away the first time without telling them why, instead you made a stink about it and that's why they kept coming close to you because they knew they were getting to you.
thanks for the before bed entertainment.. this thread provided enough of it
