If you want to go back, I'd have to say Alice Cooper & Great White. Heart was here? I love Ann Wilson's voice.

I thought they played at the Princess the year before Dan Hill came the first time.

The princess was a movie theatre when they played here - it was around 1974 or so.

It was a movie theatre but it had a stage and there was entertainment there occasionally. That's where the Dan Hill concert was.
Anyway it was all around the same time. Rush/Moxy was my first concert and that was '76.

Yeah I know they converted the Princess to a concert venue but in 1974 they were still showing movies :) That's when Lighthouse / Crowbar played the Gardens. The sound SUCKED, but the bands were good!

Nope, the did both concerts and movies at the same time.
I used to go to the matinees every saturday afternoon. Still remember the prices too.
Movie 75
Popcorn 10
Pepsi 5
Bus there and back 20

Your right Lighthouse was at the Gardens and in the 70's and 80's they had great bands there all the time. I think it was April Wine/Trooper there one time that the estimated crowd was around 11,000 The lobby and concession stand were packed...
and then the Who in Cincinnati happened. :(

Sorry. I was in Ottawa back then. Got to see ELO's first show. Hard pressed to say I've ever seen a better show, even after seeig Floyd 4 times and RW 3 times. Supertramp was good too back then, and Roy Buchanan/Joe Walsh left an imprint, Alice Cooper's Nightmare was kewl, Bowie's Diamond Dogs was a riot, The Band was ..well, The Band, Johnny and Edgar Winter both...had white hair, Queen was awesome but very gay, Gentle Giant sure played a whack of instruments, Frampton Comes Alive wasn't quite as good as the album, Genesis (with and without Peter Gabriel) sold England by the pound, and Joan Armatrading was the best female artist to sing for me. Close second was Jann Arden at the NAC, but the sound also sucked for her show at the Essar.
AC/DC, Nazareth, and last and least Kiss, I could'a done without. Now there was an over-hyped piece of crap show. Fake snow, lots of fire, and 3 whole chords...over and over...he did have a big tongue...
Chris deBurgh, Garfield, J.J. Cale, Harry Chapin, Joe Cocker, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple, Yes, Warren Zevon, Jackson Brown all deserve honourable mention.
There were lots more, but those are the ones that come to mind.
Blue Rodeo, and Neil were the best shows I've see at the Essar (3rd time seeing Neil, and the one we got here was by far the best)...missed the BNL show, The Hip sounded like the tin cans with strings I used to play with (Saw them a few times, but the best was in Kingston for free) and I couldn't care less for the Crue.

Go see the Eagles if you can next month...well worth whatever it costs. Joe, Don, and the boys will make you sing!

My opinion of our new venue...it sucks large unless you're right up front. It's all relative I guess tho... I saw Blue Rodeo at White Pines a few years back, and the sound was impeccable from every seat. It was good at the Essar from the 9th row, but I walked about, and it still sucked back further. If people accept the crap that they're paying for, what can I say? The place needs some work, and it won't change unless we all complain a bit.

Ya, really nice to see something current and not a washed up 70/80s band. No, Neil Young isn't in the washed up catagory.
