I hope this controversy doesnt turn KISS away from coming here. I wouldnt go see them because they dont play my kind of music but a high caliber band such as KISS would boost this city for a few days atleast.

why are politicians concerned about a rock band??

Hrmm i wonder as well, it probably has nothing to do with a band coming to their city, entertaining their people, playing at a city owned venue.

I don't think it will affect them at all, and if it does, it will be in a positive manner.

You need to remember, from about 1974-1977, KISS thrived on this type of attention. It defined who they were.

They love this stuff. It's great publicity.

Politicians, aka reptilians, have absolutely no business in the music industry. Music is freedom and freedom will always prevail! To hell with Ward 2 Councillor Susan Myers! Woooooooooooooo!!!!! As Rick Flair would put it! LMAO

If they ban KISS because of fake blood on stage, then they'll have to ban all gory horror movies that come to our cinemas as well.

I think ms myers should keep her elected mouth shut and let the over 6000 people who have voted to have Kiss come to the Soo do the talking...hey ms myers stick to important issues like our local economy and how you and your comrades can find ways to spend our tax money..unreal...why can't the Soo just once make itself look good instead of making itself look stupid due to its politicians...ie English only..smooth joe's self promotion to cao...etc

LOL Some of you are toooo funny. Ms. Myers may have done you all a favour, and sealed the deal for KISS to play here, and you want to run her down.

As for KISS playing here, ho hum. They were cool when I was 13, had KISS pinups and posters floor to ceiling in my room, and played Destroyer, my first album, to the point it could no longer be played. But I'm not 13 anymore, and Ace left the band. Bo-ring.

Well, you can't blame the entire Sault on one sorry hind christian who doesn't know what's best for her. I must thank her for giving the Sault this kind of attention.

"Fight and you may die. Run and you will live at least awhile. And dying in your bed many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our freedom!"

Apparently you dont know Gene very well. If anything this minor, miniscule, attention seeking drama queen will further fuel the fire for the band to do as they please. For those about to rock, we salute you...

Hi there soonetters, its been a while. I'm in Alberta now but I do still follow the local news. When I read what Coucilwoman Myers said about KISS, it solidified my main reason for moving away from my home....seriously, she's a joke, yet somehow these narrowminded ppl get elected, I won't even start on Rowswell-nope, not gonna say it lol. I'm not a KISS fan by any means, but bringing them to the Sault would be awesome. Anyhow, blah blah, my hope is this. I read that Ms Myers will be a "celebrity server" at Boston Pizza tomorrow, oh how wonderful it be if KISS fans showed up there with full make-up and costumes. Ok, maybe not everyone has the costume, but at least the face paint. PLZ PLZ PLZ fill the restaurant with KISS faces and ask for your "favourite" elected official to serve you, and be super polite and complimentary, just to prove to her that the music doesn't turn ppl into demons. After dinner, compliment her on a job well done and her positive deeds for a worthy cause, then make a small donation on her behalf to the charity in lieu of a tip.

Take pictures and post them here, I'd love to see them.

2 thoughts on this:

1: She may have sealed the deal by stirring controversy - but keep in mind this is an elected official who has input on all our major decisions. The Sault should unite and make sure this show happens - whether you intend to show up or not, this is an opportunity to show the world and the music world what kind of spirit this city has. I've thrown much more offensive shows than KISS, but noone gives a damn, because they're not big ticket bands - its the fact that she's trying to pull a moral crusade on something that is simply a stage show. Noone opposes me putting on death metal shows. Imagine if she knew what was rolling through town under her snooty prude nose!

2. Sure KISS were cool when you were 13, but deny it all you want, KISS still has one of the most intricate and visually stunning stage shows of any performer EVER. I may or may not go, it's likely going to depend on my finances, and how expensive the tix are. Regardless, there's is still an enormous amount of people here who would pay for it without thinking twice. This is an OPPORTUNITY. No one is forced to go - but why not show a little community spirit and help those who do care to see it? Kiss is a big deal, like it or not. Their music may not be so relevant to your daily life anymore, but hell, they have some timeless classics - and that's undeniable.

edit: might i add - neither neil young or gordon lightfoot are relevant these days either. I didnt think twice about declining those shows. - not my thing, but good for the sault.

I shake my head in disbelief over the comment that she is proud that artists such as gordon lightfoot, neil young, charlie pride have all come to the sault, they are all so uplifting. Granted there are some young people who may listen to them but for the vast majority of people who attended those concerts they were probably 40+ years old. What about those people who like the less stone age bands. LOL sorry to all the older people but come on lets get with it already. There is more to music besides the above mentioned artists and rita mcneal.....lol..... can we have a little excitement?

This is laughable. Again, I point out that regardless of Ms. Myers wish, she doesn't rule who comes to play in this city. She has given those of you who wish KISS to play here a big leg up, with some "controversy" to be talked about online.

Remember the Bare Naked Ladies back in the beginning? Sometime around 93 they were to play, IIRC, Nathan Phillips in Toronto. There was controversy in city council, regarding the name, and EVERYONE in Ontario heard about it. Gave the band a big boost, I'm sure. Remember, when you're an entertainer, no exposure is bad exposure. Prime example...if it weren't for Myers, I wouldn't be discussing KISS. They wouldn't even be on my radar.

Stone age bands hahaha.wait for another 10 yrs and yours will be stone age bands.

Why anyone cares what Myers says is beyond me. But thats her opinion

The article Mr. Helwig wrote about KISS just might bring them to the Sault.

Further I have never heard kiss in my life. Nor do I want to. BUT I vote everyday for them to come to the Sault. Lets beat these bigger cities and prove a point.

I agree ... do small time politicians have PR people to tell them what to say or do? If so, someone was taking a BIG nap on this one. Talk about one hell of a way to alienate yourself with most of your community.

It's KISS ... they'll have a fan base up to and over 50 years old, what was that woman thinking.

And ya ... Joe still gives us a bad rep.

People, it's not just about the comment she made about KISS. This is about this woman being the voice for a lot of Sooites ... she's obviously not a good choice to be the "general voice" of her ward/city. This is why people will come down on what she said about this topic ... because, what else is she going to be saying in the future and what other things will she be opposed to? (stuff that most of us would want)

It's obvious she has the "very old school" mentality and it's that mentality that has hurt this city. New, fresh innovative ideas is what we need ... not 50-60 something baby boomers running (ruining) "our show".

Lost in all this is that it is only KISS....man it's not like it is Leather Tuscadero and the Suedes playing at Arnolds...."Go home Jail Birds"....I've been holding on to that for days...lolol
