I have a Honda
In 85 I bought a '77 Civic for $50
Spent the summer fixing it up, patched the holes, new brakes and lines, got all the safety stuff done. It had 360,000 km on it.
Shortly after I bought it I sold a $29 radio to a mechanic . he told me to bring yhr car in for "secret warranty" when I got it running.
I finished the car, had it all nice and shiny, and took it to my local mech for the safety...he came out shakin' his head...the frame was rotten, and he told me to be careful driving it to the wreckers. I drove it across Ottawa to see the mech at the Honda dealer.

They put in all new frame, new struts, brake lines (watched 'em cut out my brand new brakes) a new gas tank, and replaced a tire. Free!!!
The car rode like brand new for another 100, 000 km.
Tjey realized that they didn't put any drainage in the struts or frame to lose the Canadian salt, so they fixed 'em .
How 'bout those American defects?

That same story can be told for every Chev truck ever sold!

Jack up the paint and slip a new car underneath.

And they don't get driven as much.

Fords are tougher, so they get used harder.

The REAL first Hondas?? Like 1964 or so???

Riiiiight!

Chevy pickup - heavy duty car.

Ford - light duty truck.

There has always been a difference.

Why do Chevys keep their re-sale value?? Because they never get worked as hard.

Perhaps....Civic's came around in 72, right around the time of the Vega.
They where brutal for rust at first.
Few cars where built with that consideration back then.

Go ask Premier Auto why they sell more Fords than Chevys.

Check Auto Trader and ask yourself why there are more Chevys than any other vehicle for sale.

GM = Throw away at end of warranty.

GM is bankrupt for a reason. Ford is NOT for a reason.

For every mechanic that says Ford is better or Chevy is better, there will always be another one equally qualified detesting it. Doesn't really mean anything.

In fact, absolutely right. Whatever you get used to.

The the car lot and Auto Trader examples are true.

P.S. Got two oldies right now. 81 Ford, 81 Chev. Both driven every day.

Well Said add
My husband is a mechanic and you could not pay him to purchase another chev product. Other then a tracker(and its cause its powered by Suzuki)

We have had nothing but bad luck with chev even in our own hands.... HES worked on far to many of them.. even the company he worked for all fleet trucks where chev untill he put a complaint in and then all the fords started rolling in just before he left...

Are you on drugs, Jack?? How's that sound to you??

Resale?? I realize that Chevy sells a lot of cars, but I think it's a reasonable assumption that if one CAN find many three year old models (say, Chevys) and CANNOT find another model (say, Honda) unless it's ten years old, there is a reason.

The test? Check how Chevys are sold each year. Check how many Hondas. Figure ratio. Then see if a well used sales mag like Auto Trader has the same ratio of used vehicles for sale.

I smoke and drink coffee, so I guess I'm guilty!
That is different than you had originally stated, so....
Your "worked harder" routine was a bit much and you have no way of proving it.
As for your ratio thing, maybe it's that the Chev owner buys more often, and not because of fatigue or failure, but because he can!
That helps them stay in better shape longer with possibly more owners.
Maybe it's because Chev are purchased as a primary source of transportation and Fords are purchased as a secondary source or a work vehicle?
.....anything else?

Fords were cheaper than Chevys, more likely to become a work truck (Dodges were cheaper still).

The Chevy owner buys more often?? So the rich do that, right?? :)

And I do believe that a person might buy a Chev as primary transportation and Ford as a work vehicle, because a Chevy is prettier and the Ford is...?? :) :) :)

I'm gonna pickup an Auto Trader. Get back to you!!

That may be true today.
I would have disagreed 5 years ago.
The new dashes and centre console is quite impressive, indeed!
That being said, it does nothing to support what Soundbear's claims.
I think part of the reason is the fact that Fords base truck was more bare bones than a Chev.
Less options means a cheaper sticker price.
The facts are, if you put a snowplow on a new base line 4x4 Ford you void the warranty.
That has got to tell you something!

My old plow truck is a old Dodge! I have got to say it is pretty tough.
My reg truck is a Ford.
My sports car is a chev.

I would rather a Ford truck than a Chev..

Funny you give top billing to your Chev!
You own a Corvette?
It doesn't change the fact that you can't even snowplow with a new base line Ford.
The work part, was more the debate, than opinion, so........

You said you have a sports car and it's a Chevrolet.
Chevrolet makes only one sports car and it's called a Corvette.
It's either that or you're calling your Chev Truck a sports car, which would be top billing!
Read back through the thread. My debate is based on the comment Fords can be worked harder.
What you would rather drive is kind of secondary to the point I am trying to make.
That being said, either one would a beautiful addition to any driveway.
I just don't believe you can work a Ford harder!

umm Jack, Chevy also makes a Camaro..a sports car.....they also make the new malibu with the 327 under the hood....more or less a luxury sports car.....so there are others then just a Corvette...

How many times did ford get truck of the year BTW???? eh? hmm???

I have to admit though now Chevy and Ford are pretty close in the trucks and the way they are built.....still a Ford guy though!! :)

By definition a Sports Cars has to be a 2 seater to start and then there has to be a performance standard.
The truck of the year thing is different than consumer reports. That award means nothing.
