Has anyone heard of the controller ports needing to be replaced on one? If you send it back to Sony for repair, will they take away the reverse compatibility?

Never heard of the issue. But, if you send it to Sony, and pay the $149.99, they'll send you a refurbished 60GB. :)

Does it still have the reverse compatibility?

Back them up to an external hard drive? Still haven't answered me about the reverse compatibility being taken out. Anyone know?

All 60GBs are backwards compatible. That's not a feature you can simply remove, and it's the only model that does hardware emulation as opposed to software.

Do you have to use a PS3 HDMI cable or can you use any HDMI cable?

Any cable. Monoprice.com - $1-3 per cable... I buy my cables and more from them.

Do you mean USB ports? I thought every Sony PS3 uses wireless controllers.

You don't need to use HDMI, but if your TV supports it, there's no reason not to. I ordered 3 HDMI cables from Monoprice.com last year for $14 total.
