If it's for TV it won't be of use much longer once everything goes to digital transmission.

Local channels won't be switching to digital transmission, they'll just be going off the air.

perhaps you should provide proof of this. and why cant he have an antennae for his camp? dtv canada is another year. he should be looking for a dtv capable antennae anyways to ensure that he will get channels (possibly even from the states depending on where his camp is

True, but then why advertise to purchase a UHF/VHF antenna?

However, on a good note, in a lot of cases the UHF/VHF antenna could be used afterward for receiving radio stations. My father has a 50' tower at his place and he's used his antenna for both tv and radio reception, but mostly for radio reception.

rayc, the antenna you're looking for will suffice for another two years or so.

What is the August 31, 2011 deadline?

The Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has set the deadline for digital (DTV) transition for August 31, 2011. By that date, Canadian over-the-air television stations will stop broadcasting in analog, using digital signals instead. In some remote and northern areas the transition will occur after the above date. Most developed countries have already switched, or are planning to switch, to DTV before 2012.

So you have a few options.

Like 67 L79 said, perhaps if you're close to the border, a DTV capable antenna may be more suitable if it's mostly US stations that you would be picking up. Otherwise, the other may get you through fine for the next 2 years.
