It's now $35 for 2 bottles of Crown - picked some up on our long weekend but it's still a good deal.

My neighbour buys a case of beer at duty free in US, along with milk and gas everytime they go over. Coming back declare everything, they swear it is cheaper than the beer store and a couple of times they where sent through with no duty at all..

Don't quote me on it, I try to support local stuff even if it only a couple of jobs at the beer store (I did drink that [censored] nasty Northern draft for years when it was availible) But to my knowledge my neighbour has never told me stories and seems to know numbers.....

i buy a 30 pack of beer for 13.00
beer store, 24 pack of beer 38.00
ya, it's worth it. the milk, cheese, eggs, and gas is a bonus also
dont but A-1 steak sauce over there it's like $5.00 for a bottle. lol

Do you know what the duty you would have to pay on a case of beer over there if you were pulled in?

No. Neighbour says it is cheaper than beer store for a case of Canadian cans. He is a business person and deals with money so I just said what I heard.

if you are in the states for 48 hours you can bring a case of beer and a carton of smokes back to canada.

kim gagnon
07-10-2007, 11:05 AM

i have a idea tippi and it goes something like this:

you go over and gas up around oh say 4:30. you prchase a case of COLD beer and meet me at my house, we will drink the beer thus hiding the evedence then you cross the bridge no questions asked.
what do ya think? lol

Don't know, when money was hugely different it was fairly close, you could always call them.

Good choice, asking the way is never as fun as the endless possibilities of plans, and its hard to talk to real people, almost as hard as getting a straight answer out of them.

To tell the truth I was waiting for someone to ask the phone number. I like being a [censored] sometimes.

Last saturday we got 24 cans when we came across, we got charged $15.99 for the beer, and $18.53 for duty.

It worked out to be pretty much $10 cheaper.

$10 is worth is still.

Mind you, we were only gone for 6 hours to St. Ignace for the car show but still, that duty was nuts.

you think you save $10.00
well $10.00 - $4.50 for bridge fair = $5.50
then your gas and line up at customs
you save $0.00

yea, but we were over for the car show so technically we still save $10 cause we were over for something unrelated.

you still save.. alot actually specially if you have a truck.. $2.97 a gallon over there as opposed to the $4.31 a gallon it works out to over here, and then i always buy a 12 pack.. they never ask or say anythign about a 12 pack, and i am in the states literally 10 mins. then i go home, get another vehicle and do the same thing, not once have i been pulled in just for a 12 pack.
1 gallon [US, liquid] = 3.785411784 liter
3.785*1.139=4.31
30 gallons in my truck,
15 gallons in moms van, and a 5 gallon jerry can each time
55 gallons @ a savings of 1.34/gallon is 73.70 saved between me and the parents on gas when i go across. tell me thats not a savings either that or show me where my math is wrong, cause i like those numbers
ps ( im still using a card that we stocked up so its only costing me $1 roughly each way)

kim gagnon
07-10-2007, 03:50 PM
gas went up 21 cents a gallon yesterday
and yes i cross everyday since i work in canada but live in soo mich, that card saves you $

daynzy
07-10-2007, 03:53 PM
what's the gas at now? It was 2.98 when I was over yesterday

kim gagnon
07-10-2007, 03:56 PM
by the time i got home i think it was around 3.19. i stopped at the gaas station for milk and the owner was talking about how it just jumped up in 1 day, he was not happy cause he gets to listen to all the complaining.
