in church i remember that is how jesus was described.... does that not mean he would be african, or maybe east indian, or something? so what's with people always depicting him as a white guy with dirty blond hair?

I don't think the Bible describes Jesus' physical appearance at all. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

The only time it describes Jesus appearance is after his torture before the crucifixion. It describes him, basically, as homely, and disfigured almost beyond recognition because of the severity of the beatings.

Let's not hold the Bible responsible for Hollywood's creations. It is Hollywood that creates the handsome, tan, and blue-eyed Jesus, not the Bible.

My personal take is that Jesus was an average-looking man. I believe this is so because anyone attracted to Jesus in his day would be attracted because of his words and what he stood for, not for his physical attraction or charisma.

A Christmas song.

Some Children See Him
By Alfred Burt

Some children see Him lily white
the infant Jesus born this night
Some children see Him lily white
with tresses soft and fair

Some children see Him bronzed and brown
the Lord of heav'n to earth come down
Some children see Him bronzed and brown
with dark and heavy hair (with dark and heavy hair!)

Some children see Him almond-eyed
This Saviour whom we kneel beside
Some children see Him almond-eyed
With skin of yellow hue!

Some children see Him dark as they
Sweet Mary's Son to whom we pray
Some children see Him dark as they
And, ah! they love Him so!

The children in each different place
Will see the Baby Jesus' face
Like theirs but bright with heav'nly grace
And filled with holy light!

O lay aside each earthly thing
and with thy heart as offering
Come worship now the infant King
'tis love that's born tonight!

this song/poem proves nothing, it simply shows that SOME people see him one way, and others SEE him anoter. it has to do with perspective, a song about the son of the almighty is bound to show so many different perspectives

I think the song is stating that people of all cultures who believe see him in a different way. I think that is likely true.
