we are thinking of taking a trip to the mall of america in
mineapolis (sp?) in august. just wondering if anyone has been there and what they thought of it. i lived in edmonton for a few years and i really loved going to the west edmonton mall, besides the shopping there were so many other things, so im hoping that since mall of america is bigger it will be good to visit. our 15 year old daughter is sure excited!

I was there a few years back and it was very nice then, I imagine that it still is. Its easy to find just follow the highway from Duluth and it'll take you to the front door.

It kind of reminds me of the west Edmonton mall before all of its expansions.

what expansions? i left in 1989. that place was huge. i loved all of the displays and stuff throughout the mall, there was just so much to see and do there.

i was there in june and i took my kids there last year, it was great.
They have a 10 acre amusement park in the middle. It would be great for kids but a 15 yo might not have that much excitement. I mean its not as big as canada's wonderland. but great for younger teens and kids, you can buy all day passes.
Its huge huge huge, 3 stories, 4 anchor stores ( and not wallmart or zellers lol)\
big big highway system, Minneapolis has like a couple of million people there. get a good map and have a good navigator.

We stayed at the Ramada's thunderbird in just on the north side of the mall.
Lot of good restaurants like Rainforest cafe , etc, and TGIF fridays.
I am sure you'll be able to spend a few days, with no problems there. take good shoes for walking.
Lots to do in Minneapolis too, great downtown,
Check out the minneapolis tourism site.

I was surprised at the size but the amusements were nothing at all like I expected, more for little kids say 5 or 6. The underwater adventures aquarium was nice, we touched a stingray, we did the Nascar thingy, but it cost money, okay but nothing great. The shopping was nice, tons and the prices were not over the top, typical mall prices. i would give it a 7 out of 10.

Get a map! You don't drive all the way to Duluth. That's about 7 hours alone! Go past Green bay and across middle Wisconsin.

Roughly, driving straight from here how long would it take to get there?
And am I blind or is there no pictures of the amusement park?
Looks like a great place to take the kids, provided it doesn't take toooo long to ge there! LOL..anyone with young kids would understand.

Actually as I recall I was coming back a wedding in from Calgary when I stopped there. But it would be a good idea to get a map and look at things of interest along all the different route to get there, sometimes the fastest isn't always the best.

i went to caa and got several maps, it takes about 10 hours strait driving at the speed limit. i figure its sort of like going to toronto or ottawa, just something totally different since weve done both of those places lots of times.
we are looking at accomodations now, looks like about $100 a nite. i was just wanting others opinions who had been there, what they thot of it. thanks.

Actually the road from here to Duluth is nice as I travel it a couple of times a year, but there are shorter routes.

Kitca is correct it is about 10 HRS, just got back from there last weekend. There is some construction along the way but not too bad, mostly in Wausau.
My second time for me, really enjoyed it not like your typical mall here, you know like the Station Mall, New Sudbury Centre or most malls you go to. Lots to see, nice Aquarium downstairs, Kids really like Legoland and so on. Need more than a day to see everything.....have fun.

you can go either way south thru EUP michigan or north of the lake thru thunderbay and then down, last time i went that way and stayed overnight at some casino, i hadnt bother to get gas in tbay lol, got to the border knocked on the window to wake the border guy up and thankfully the gas station down the road left one pump on with credit card payment. or i woulda had to sleep at the pump

Kitca I went to Newberry and south on 117, to Escanaba then south to Green Bay and across through Wausau and Eau Claire. You can go across sooner than Green Bay but its not 4 lane. The first time I went I stayed at Eau Claire a couple of hours from the Mall, I guess it depend on how you plan your trip and how much time you have. This last time we went after work just to get a head start so we stayed closer because time was an issue.

thanks. that is the route weve been eyeing up. and that is why you went all the way to green bay because of the 2 lane... i wondered about that, you cant really tell on the maps i have. i wonder, do you think you saved time by keeping with the 4 lanes, even though it was a bit longer?
grump, thanks for the dells link, ill check it out right away.

Yep no queation, came back on the 2 lane route it was slow and lots of slow traffic. Way better to go the Green Bay way.

i LOVE ikea!!! i think we are going to go the route you did tony, and prolly back the same way too, now that you have 'tested' the 2 lane hiway and found it to be slow. thx.
Verotik
07-14-2007, 11:24 PM
lol, both ways are fairly slow
