We have a baseboard cold air return vent that is angled and want to change it so that it is flat to the floor and wall. Does anyone know if this type of vent exists or where we should look to get one made? The vent is close to the doorway and is a major toe-stubbing hazzard. Also... does a house really need to have 3 cold air returns?

You have a couple options really. You can take that vent right out and move it to another location or you can alter the vent so it is flat, whichever you prefer. The amount of vents depends on the size of the home, and if you have too few, you will affect the running and efficiency of your furnace. The idea of the vents is to pull air from your house to allow for better circulation.
These are actually very easy jobs to do if the basement is open so you can access the duct work. If accessing the duct work is not possible, they do require more work and some creativity. Best bet, call a tin banger and ask for a free quote.

We had that done in an older house we owned. We just took a flat rectangular vent grill and bent it at a 90, so the 3 inches of vent into the floor was covered and so was the 7 inches up the wall. The hardest part was finding a flat grill that was the right size.

That's what I was thinking we'd have to do. As long as we can find a 32x10inch vent we should be good.

Home Depot, Soo Mill, canadian Tire, almost anyone should have something like that. If you cannot find the right size, you could close the opening a little to fit whatever grill size you find. The opening does not need to be that exact size to work, as long as you do not close off too much.
